Category: News and Politics

While I’m driving I love listening to Talk Radio, I listen to conservative stations and liberal stations, because I like to entertain both opinions; I also usually call in if time permits. Well last week many Conservative Radio Hosts were quite pleased with the discovery of pieces of Reverend Jeremiah Wright speeches.

(Wright was Barack Obama’s pastor, and has a been a major proponent of Obama’s candidacy.)

Not only did these stations play many of Wright’s audio out of context, they also ASSUMMED that Obama BELIEVES and FOLLOWS EVERYTHING that Wright preaches. I called into a few of these shows to explain that the above assumption is one problem with stupid people.

In our society there are A LOT of stupid people, and they tend to BLINDLY FOLLOW leaders, who are not that much smarter then them. So, when a story like this hits the news, they automatically assume the following:

If Obama attends a church where Wright preaches,

then Obama MUST believe EVERYTHING that Wright believes.

This assumption just displays how idiotic these people are, they cannot comprehend that there are people in the world who can think for themselves. Much to their dismay there exists individuals who can appreciate certain writers, leaders, speakers, etc., yet at the same time these individuals maintain their own beliefs. For example I love Nietzsche! I think he is an awesome philosopher, but do I BELIEVE EVERYTHING Nietzsche believed? No, of course not!

Finally, Obama released a statement explaining that while he did attend Wright’s church for many years, he doesn’t believe EVERYTHING Wright believes. Read Obama’s full Statement here.

This whole week has just shown that there is a major problem in our country, that there really isn’t an adequate separation of church and state! I hate that the Conservative side has tried so adamantly to blur the distinction between religion and the government. It is quite ridiculous! The majority of our society has actually begun to believe that if you are not affiliated with the ’right’ religious group, then you couldn’t possibly have the ’right’ kind of morality.

Come on America... you’re killing me!!

I don't like Nietzsche, but I do agree with you about stupid people and about their biased assumptions.

Stupid assumptions are one thing...but when they have the power to effect major public welfare, it is quite a scary thing.

HAHAHA!!!

The problem with that is that the majority of the public are quite frankly, stupid.

Intelligence is by FAR the greatest minority in this country.

Yes, the minority of the country's minority of intelligence is on the right. That leaves the left with the majority in this case. It's well documented by the lack of care for the Constitution.

What concerns me is that the media will display things out of context. That there is a part of the population that has no clue about two sides to a story and believes what they hear without investigation.

It seems to be all about agendas and not about information. The news organizations are trivializing themselves to intelligent people.

Talk radio is a little different and an agenda is expected. Still when my intelligence gets insulted I stop listening in a hurry. Church and state should be separated at least in this country. Again it is an us against them thing which can't end well. Oh well enough. Good post to bring this stuff up. Don't let it pass by.

Well the media for the most part must display things out of context, because the American public is “too busy” to listen to the full story. There are agendas behind everything…and as long as people fail to use sufficient reasoning and pay homage to fallacies the majority will continue to fester in their own ignorance.

It was interesting how conservatives justified the focus on Obama's church because of the scrutiny Romney got for being Mormon. And, admittedly, a pastor saying "God Damn America" is somewhat over the top. One point that was made is that Obama brings his children to this church where such things as "God damn America" are being said. It's one thing to disagree, it's another to subject one's children to it. Well, once you get into religion you get into weirdness.

I do agree with you on your point of children having been subjected to discussion involving politcal opinions inside a church house - preacher or not. It was no time or place for that.

As for all else, I've never been one to get tangled up in details about situations for debate. I tend to sit back and watch things and get a feel from the big picture. I was raised with the philosophy that you should never listen to what a man says - watch what he does. In this day and age, I choose to replace the word "man" with "they". Sexual equality has made its strides deserving enough, despite anyone's opinions of how the scales may continue tipping. Anyway -

What I see more than anything - situations like this come out in the media to drive our attention in one direction, while groundwork begins elsewhere by others - nine times out of ten, for interests having nothing to do with what's good or positive for American citizens.

In this instance - everyone is pulling feathers out of their fannies over this preacher and his connection to Barack Obama.

Has anyone noticed - there has been a little bit of negative media coverage to the 5 year anniversary of the war in Iraq. In perfect timing - McCain heads over to Iraq (for the 8th time). Within hours, he is followed by Cheney. And it's all supposed to be such a surprise - both made secret surprise appearances??

It's nothing but groundwork for damage control. And we have one presidential candidate in the middle of that. Wonderful as he may be - and I, for one, adore him and admire him for the service he gave to our country.

However - I have SEEN actions proving only one thing. By the time any individual reaches the point of promising objective for the role of our country's leader - they have become a whore for somebody - but not this country's body.

At the end of the day, I think we've reached a point in this country where we all need to wake up and realize something. No matter who becomes president of our country - we are all, very much, on our own.

I don’t believe that politics have a place in any church…and Religion sure as hell doesn’t belong in political agendas (except for the freedom to practice believe in any religion).

I know, there is such flawed logic here…that is like saying “I’m justified in killing because some guy killed someone last week!”

“Well, once you get into religion you get into weirdness.”
Couldn’t agree with you more…that tends to happen when you are ordered to “just accept stuff” or the bad ass hillbilly in the sky will strike you down.

While I do agree with you to a point, I will say that the vast majority of the GOP could've given less than a shit about Romney being a Mormon. The vast majority of the conservative party aren't the right wing, bible thumping idiots that get all the free press that make actual conservatives clench their ass cheeks. I will fully admit that I use the phrase "tree huggin' hippies" a great deal when describing liberals, but I am far away from thinking the majority of liberals are that way.

The crzy thing about this...the media is banking on the stupid people as they publically confide in to keep this political bed-play all exotic and hot...

they need to really stop....nothing about politics should be steamy and glamorized...

I thought that this had already climaxed and somebody's gotten out of bed to really start this campaign...(GO OBAMA!!!)

BUT I see there is a third-party called the media that insist on getting in and dragging obama back in with them...

sorry for the analogy but it's the best way i could think of it...lol

let's keep it about the facts...

"let's keep it about the facts..."

That goes two ways. The fact is that he DID associate with the Rev. for more than 20 years...blah blah, you know the rest. The fact is also that he waited until word leaked of the "God damn America" part came out before he realized that his "uncle" strategy wasn't going to cut it anymore. Do I think Obama's views reflect that of the Rev.? No, not in the slightest. I've stated several times, though not in this particular blog, that Obama presents himself with the utmost of class and dignity. It was, and is turning out to be a murderous decision by the manager's of Obama's campaign, and if it were me, I'd fire them in a fuckin' heartbeat for it. If this story does die it will come back twice as hard, and be twice as much of a political burden in the general election. It's made Obama easily beatable, whereas if he'd have taken the proper steps to put himself as far away as possible from it in the first place the problem is effectively eliminated; and this'd leave you with the extremely minute group of idiots who'd think that because he denounced his pastor, he must be a Muslim. He'd still be an unbeatable national candidate had this not surfaced, and THAT'S why it's getting so much attention. Which is also why I'm loving it so much.

The thing is his association shouldn’t matter at all. SEPERATION OF CHURCH AND STATE!!!!! If you want Church AND State you keep them separate, if they become one you have neither!

So Obama should appease the stupid??? Well I guess it worked for Bush!

Bullshit.

This isn't about the church he went to. This is about his "mentor" and "father figure" (both earlier quotes of Obama's). The fact that he's a Reverend doesn't matter. The fact that he's a racist piece of shit, does.

And no one in their right mind ever doubted his religion. And it shouldn't matter a fucking bit, anyways.

While you would be entitled to an opinion.............that opinion would be incorrect. As fas as I'm aware there hasn't been any incidents of Christian or Jews for that matter strapping bombs on and self destructing in a Muslim masque anywhere in the US. We are fairly tolerant when it comes to being able to practice a faith without violence. What we do do is make excuses for for people like Jeremiah Wright, Jesse Jackson, Pat Robertson and the rest of the so called Christian leadership. The only thing they haven't done is ask the people to drink blue cool aid and wait for the mother ship to pick us up.

All he said was that Religious tolerance isn't America's strong suit.

Just because there are societies that have less Religious tolerance then America, it doesn't mean that America automatically has wonderful religious tolerance...you can't compare down to justify your beliefs.

That's like say Bob only raped and killed five little kids, while Stan raped and killed 30 little kids, so Bob has a good relationship with little kids.... see what's wrong with your reasoning?

Furthermore, the gentleman that originally leaked the taped was interviewed this morning (I can't remember if it was CNN or Fox) and he stated that they were running another article with evidence that states that Obama was most certainly present at the racist asshole's sermons, which Obama has expressly denied on several occasions. So this ain't dyin' anytime soon. Which is a good thing.

P.S. I'd like to personally extend my hand in thanks to the Rev. for singlehandedly handing over the independent and right leaning democrat vote to McCain.

P.P.S. This isn't going to get better. The closer PA comes, the more desperate Hillary's dumb ass will be. Clintonian political strategy will shine again. Leaving me with my next question: WHO are the almost 1/2 of the democratic party moronic enough to vote for her?
