Spy Optic's Mike Losness took third at ASP's WQS 6-Star Sooruz Lacanau Pro in Lacanau, France August 12-17th. Losness was rated 71 out of 500 + competitors going into the event. In Round 2, he surfed victoriously through six rounds before narrowly losing in the semi-finals to the event winner Nathaniel Curran.
Mike left the competition with an equal 3rd place, which was equivalent to his best result back in 2006 during the US Open of Surfing held in Huntington Beach, CA. This podium finish rockets Mike's WQS rating from 71 to the 42nd spot.
Lacanau marked the 25th stop of the grueling 47 events held on the WQS. This is about half way to go to qualify on the prestigious "Dream Tour," officially know as the World Championship Tour or WCT.
Typically the top 15 overall rated surfers of the WQS qualify into the WCT and the WQS European leg tends to be where the real race for WCT qualification begins. With three more major events to surf in the Europe leg let's keep our finger's crossed for Mike and his continued success on his road to qualification.
Mike Losness from San Clemente, CA is known as one of the premiere free surfers in the US. He's been testing the waters of competition by tackling the WQS in hopes of qualifying into the WCT. Mike is no stranger to competition because as an amateur he holds a handful of amateur titles including the highly coveted NSSA Open Mens title in 1998.
