I looked into my rearview mirror to see what was behind
Some images were pleasant and others were not so kind.
I tried to adjust the mirror so that I could look beyond.
But that could not mask what was already passed.
It only made the pain prolonged.
I tried to set my gaze along the left and to the right.
But then my heart began to race and felt such fright!
To close my eyes cannot deny the images that I see.
So instead I must be brave, strong and embrace what is behind me.
For we should not fear the paths that we once took
No matter how rough we should take a look.
For the images that once imprisoned us
Are now our windows to a new existence filled with new hope and trust!
So when I look into my rearview mirror to see what is behind
All of the fear and doubt that surrounded me, I pay them no mind.
No longer will I block my view from certain scenes I may dread.
Looking behind us is what makes us aware and look forward to what's ahead.
