When I Met a Stranger
One day when the rain came down,
I felt as if my soul was about to drown,
In my sorrow, there seemed to be no solace,
For the pain burned deep within me like a furnace.
Some sleepless nights I'd toss and turned
Just to have peace was some that I so dearly yearned.
I try to stay strong and put up a proud face
But if only the world knew what trials I try to chase
Away everyday but to my dismay
It reappears to haunt me another day.
But one morning I met a stranger
He was wrapped like the babe in the manger.
As I watched him rest in the land of many dreams
I began to notice the peace that was present in his face which seems
So difficult to fathom
If this lonely spirit who's address resides on the concrete and bottoms
Of cardboard boxes, find a "peace that surpasses all understanding",
Surly I can reduce the stress and personal reprimanding
For all of the my transgressions
And those who had spiritual possession
Of my heart
Time for a brand new start
I let the Almighty One enter in
And I found a new way to begin!
I prepared a small feast, some warmth and financial contribution
Once I gave a bit of the Son to another I found some retribution
For the sorrow that once imprisoned me has loosened its chain
And now there is hope through the pain.
For I am forever changed
Since that day in the rain
When I met a stranger.
