Current mood:  hopeful
6/27/2006 5:25 PM

Hey Jules! I just wanted to tell you that you are a diamond in the rough in Atlanta and as usual Atlanta is sleeping on the fact that people like you live there. But like Joni Mitchell said "You dont know what you've got 'til its gone". I hope that Atlanta will soon wake up and give honor where its due before its too late and you're in L.A. or someplace getting what you deserve. I hold Ketch A Vibe dear to my heart because it was one place that i felt free enough to do what i felt as a musician and it was well recieved like in the days of Yin Yang Cafe : ) where we kept the "vibe" flowing every week for 5 yrs! That says a lot. ATLANTA WAKE UP! And dont settle for these INSTANT MIX songs and artists! Bring back the substance in BLACK MUSIC! We are worth way more than a verse and a hook! We want bridges! and vamps! We want 6min jam songs back on the radio like the old days of Earth Wind and Fire and Kool and the Gang and Stevie Wonder and the funky Meters! We dont want to hear samples of what was, we want new ideas and originality! Cant yall see that that is a part of the NEW WORLD ORDER! They dont want you to know TOO MUCH! Knowledge is power! They are afraid of us because they know that they cant succeed without us! Dont be ignorant, support BLACK MUSIC! Its OURS! Sorry Julie i had to do it! Love You! Lil' John

The last 12 sentences are what really moved me to put this on my blog
I know alot of people feel the same way!!!!!!

AMEN!!!! To all of the above:  Julie, Yin Yang, the vibe, 6min+ jam songs, EWF, Stevie, Kool & the Gang, originality, vamps, bridges!!!  Brings tears to my eyes to even think of it.  If we all do our part it'll be back before we know it.

Ms. Dexter, you are music!  Regardless of where you are WE HEAR YOU  and feel you.  Stay up!!

I am so in agreement with Lil John's comments. Your music is wonderful! I am working atthis very moment with a friend to get you, your just props here in ATL. In the same likeness as Jesus, he was amongst his own people and they recieved him not. So, when he left, that's when they wept. A word to the wise...wise up! ATL has great talent and you are amongst them. Be encouraged to do and be your songs.

yeah tell US about it.  It seem people in Atlanta are afraid to branch out of the "BLING n SNAP" phase.  Thats what we have notice from our time in ATL>  O and people here dont like to spend money...

i agree with lil john.  what we have circulating through the sound waves, representing us and our youth, is NOT music.  read my blog about this:

WIthout a doubt - music has to be done freely - to go past the barriers/standards that are ste.

All vocalists - esp MC's -  Speak For as long or short as the vibe commands - less than 16 bars - 16 bars or more who cares - people don't count bars when listenin to a tune - if it sounds right then it is

SO shall it B - live music must live!!!

Thanks for that. I agree totally, It kills me how as Michael Baisden calls it, B-Side artist, talk about black empowerment, black love and so much positivity yet, we get the same 12 songs nationwide. Remember when you could go to Philly and hear ad different sound than that of any other place. No matter where you went you got different sounds and artists. Prince and Morris Day used to kill the Minn. area. Lil Jon is right. The media has taken true empowering and positive music off of the airwaves and along with some bad parenting we have a generation that applauds a pimp mentality, when AIDS is crushing our community and our little women are wearing heels to elementary and middle school. Since a lot of people are starting to stop listening to the radio, I think the next thing will be talk radio. You can see that with shows like Russ Parr, Steve Harvey, Doug Banks and Michael Baisden. The only thing on some radio stations is the quiet storm. I love your music, you keep me going and keep me focused to not only what real music was but still is. Check out my Empowerment Minutes for more, but I have to leave you with this......what the heck is NEO-Soul? Ain't nothing new about soul. LOL! Peace and Blessings!

This is a GLOBAL message, and you know we feel the same way whether we are in London or LA, Tokyo or Toronto. Denmark or DC.

I echo the sentiment, and I do add, let us rebuild the roots, and new trees will spring up, and this time the garden will belong to the ones who planted the seeds.

I just want say well said and conceived and now its time to put those sentiments into action. It saddens me so to see how our music has been co-opted and turned into something silly and simple. I love what you guys are doing to keep the spiritual flow alive and free from nonsense. I will always love and support those who dare to keep it real serious. 1Lov Always, Zeke
