Photographs From The Shoebox - Preorder the vinyl L.P.=====================================================
Last fall I recorded some songs for and with my friend JOE JACK TALCUM. It's going to be released soon as a "split record" entitled "Photographs From The Shoebox" with MISCHIEF BREW on one side of the vinyl L.P. and Joe on the other. I can't remember the last time I possessed a turntable - might have been around 1989 or '90 though - a looong time back. So when the test pressing arrived last week, Joe offered to loan me his turntable so I could have a listen.
WOW! What fun! I've never had a recording of mine in vinyl before. It was great to hear, and I really enjoyed the Mischief Brew side as well. Quality Folk Punk here, folks - keep your eyes peeled and your ears to the ground about this one. It will also be out on CD. I'll let you know when it's released.
Since I had the turntable here I got curious about a few things. The digital/analog debate is always raging, but I never worried much about it since I can't afford to be the audiophile that I "might" become if I had an endless budget. A friend had mentioned thinking that "Let It Be" on vinyl is far superior to the CD, so I got that out and had a listen. Then I started to realize that this was my big chance to listen to some records that I have thoroughly neglected for close to 20 years. I figure I'll digitize my favorites, and started poking through my collection.
Last night I had the great pleasure of listening to TREAT HER RIGHT and SCRUFFY THE CAT - my two favorite Boston bands of the mid-80s. I saw both bands countless times, as I was a club manager and a gigging musician in those days. I always admired and enjoyed the bands, and it was really fab to hop in the time machine and instantly feel transported back to my early 20s...I think I might just have to choose a song from each band for a Hugo cover treatment - though hopefully they can inspire me to get back to some writing.
So if any of my old Boston musical friends stumble onto this blog, especially from those two bands...thanks for the memories.
And thanks to Joe for involving me in his project! MORE LATER...!
