Current mood:  creative
Last  night's gig with Joe Jack Talcum was a success - coffeehouse filled to capacity, plate glass windows covered with the dripping wet perspiration and exhalations of a significant percentage of the Philly Punk community...Joe Jack in his usual fine fettle and Hugo struggling valiantly to hold onto and play his instruments despite lack of straps and presence of excessively sweaty hands...we played a range of songs including some recent ones from the new album (Photograph, Alcohol), some of Joe's writing efforts from his Dead Milkmen days (Dean's Dream, Methodist Coloring Book) and Butterfly Joe days (Fancy Walls - in my opinion our strongest tune together) and even covers from Dylan (Blowing In the Wind) and the Beatles (Nowhere Man, banjo-style. Don't try this at home.) Joe's erstwhile bandmate Dean Clean even rounded us out as a trio, providing a bit of bongo and gourd action on a couple of tunes (Yesterday I Was Talking To My Sister and Jellyfish Heaven). Saw some old friends and made a couple of new ones. Avoiding getting tattoed or pierced and managed not to wake up across the state line.

Note to non-gigging recordists - my palm was crossed with more silver than the previous three years of attempted download sales combined (lol).

Note to dobro-playing folk punkers a.k.a. Lesson Learned The Hard Way - don't point your dobro's speaker cone toward the monitor...ouch...

Rock on!
DC Cardwell

If your download sales are equivalent to mine that means you earned enough for a coffee on the way home after the gig! Sounds like a good time had by Hugh and everyone else.

I had the good fortune to attend and very nearly added to my small collection of epidermal art while wandering thru the"old city".....something along the lines of Jiminy Cricket sporting Ben Franklin's face danced briefly across my mind, lol! I'm certainly glad for the opportunity and invitation to finally meet and shake the talented hand of one of my IAC buddies in Hugh Hamilton. Folks, if you haven't yet, I encourage you to visit Hugh's page at IACmusic.calm and take home some of his outstanding work. I promise you won't have to feed them or put them out to pee at night...they won't stain the rug or scratch up the furniture, either, and they'll give you many hours of enjoyment. Bach, Hugh, Bach! Gotta tell y'all I had a great time at this gig! Hugh, the dobro/monitor thing.....no sweat man, that's why they call it "live music".......warts and all. Diggin your slide work. It was cool to meet Joe Jack, too. Struck me as quiet and unassuming but he has a strong stage presence and his songs are solid folk, rooted in the best tradition, you know, a sharp stick in the eye of established thought......this coming from someone who had his head thoroughly immersed in southern rock (and growling about) punk music. Cool peeps. More encouragement, folks....get this CD. Hugh, if you guys can find the time, I'm gonna put wood to my promise of getting you guys up to New London.....I floated the idea at Rivergods rehearsal tonight and tapped into some key connections. Guaranteed full house status. My favorite of the evening......Methodist Coloring Book....(given my Catholic upbringing). Works for me. Still coloring outside the lines, Jammerdood Our love to the fam.
