This made me laugh...
SASS DRAGONS: Blowing Fire Out of Both Ends
The Sass Dragons will undoubtedly enjoy playing Friday, November 14 at Booby's, if for no other reason than to be able to say they played a venue by that name. With hilarious song titles lie "Clean Out Your Locker," "Ass Scorpions" and "Don't Just Stand There, Dance Motherfucker," the Sass Dragons won't win any awards for Best Adult Standards Act, but they wouldn't anyway- these boys (drummer and smartass Jimmy Adamson, singer and guitarist Jason Smith, and bass player Mike Oberlin) are dirty punks. John Lydon probably wouldn't let his granddaughters go out with this band from the Chicago suburbs for the fear that something BAD happening.
"(The Sass Dragons) basically started because we were all really bored and we wanted free beer," says Adamson. "Originally, Jason wanted to find a really kick-ass bass player, but we found Mike instead, who had never played bass at all. It worked out real nice (because) Jason and I don't really know how to play our instruments (either)."
The Sass Dragons just play sloppy, fast, and with such smartass bravado that it comes out slipshod and youthful, as punk should. Their talent comes from how the Sass Dragons personify their name- they're boyish wiseasses whose fiery tongues could possibly make them a target of some well-meaning but stiff crusader for decency.
The Sass Dragons also happen to be cohorts with Bloomington, Indiana's Prizzy Prizzy Please, another band that seems to take the party wherever they go. The two bands have played several shows together, and it is safe to say that the alliance was nothing but trouble. "The tour with PPP was a grand old time," says Adamson. "The shows were great. We had circle pits going for us, a lot of farting and woo-hooing. The tour was real fun. It was our first, (and) maybe our last.
This writer had to look up the definition of circle pits, a type of aggressive dancing at rock shows. I thought it was another word for those embarrassing sweat rings around the armpits of shirts. Listening to a few of the Sass Dragon tracks on their website ("Gone Hoggin', "Woke Up Next to a Dude") I figured it was the latter. Both will probably be present at their shows.
For those who want to report a complaint, or for whom the thought of being audibly molested by the Sass Dragons seems exciting, visit sassdragons.com where the band has posted MP3s, videos, touring schedules and some indecent photographs.
