Current mood:tired, so f'ing tired
I was about to head off to bed, but then I came across this entry on Archie McPhee's blog:

Link New Products for 2009!

Maybe it's just me, or does that fellow on the left seem familiar?

My Diabolical Hot Dog character has been very popular, I can barely keep up with the demand, and the shirt on Threadless.com has done very well and exposed a lot more folks to my work. The one thing I've always wanted to do is to produce a Diabolical Hot Dog figure loaded with weapons and basically, give the people what they want, but being a rather small enterprise, I haven't been able to pull it off yet.

Now, I think the thing that really ticks me off about this, and that is keeping me awake, is that if the folks at McPhee had at least dropped me a line, I'd probably jump at the opportunity to putting out a figure, but they chose to put out a knock off.

Now, I understand that they might not ever have run across my site, but that Threadless shirt has been everywhere, and it isn't too crazy to think that someone at McPhee saw it and was "inspired" by it, but still McPhee, you couldn't call?

Yep...I'd get a lawyer... I know the owner through work...Maybe a calm death threat is in order-OR, send me a crapload of DHD stickers and we'll slap them on the stores windows... Or never try to protect your int property, as it is an outdated concept? Britt(The other one)

I wasn't in any real shape to draft any formal letter of complaint last night when I stumbled across it. The only thing I could manage was to try to spread the word, and hopefully get people to write McPhee just to let them know that they've been spotted. Honestly, I'd been more than happy to partner with them to produce an official figure, but it looks like they took the knock-off route instead.

Let us not forget the words of Matt Groening's Life in Hell..."It is unwise to annoy the cartoonist." You can always rip off corndog, and have a villian for DHD. I mean that nasty sausage has needed a true nemesis for years.
This is the kick in the ass DHD needed!

i went on their blog and commented that it was a ripoff, and posted a link to Nerfect. they will most likely delete it. it also rips off the inferior and not as cool helmut the hotdog too, down to having legs and a sidekick. click on the photo in their blog and will take you to flickr where you can comment on the photo saying oh, i don't know..."thanks for being an idea rapist" or whatever comes to mind...

Diabolical Hot Dog and my comments have been pulled from their blog as well. I wouldn't be surprised if your comment has disappeared, too. Drop a line their way and spread the word. Until I figure out a decent plan of action, they need to know that people are calling them on their bullshit.
