Tape 026 ~ Don't Jump the Gun, Don't Sing That Song in My Head ~
First of all my apologies for the long silence and delays! I recently moved houses…and packing (and unpacking!) Vinyl and CDs and books and magazines and clothes and toys, etc etc takes a long long process! I thought I would have been done by now but it’s such a tedious and slow process and it will definitely take me several more weeks to finish! Maybe I need more storage room, more bookcases, etc. I’d love to buy that big record shelf from IKEA too! Anyways, I am happy that I at least I finished another MixTape to play! Yippee! Although I did have to change, re-do, take out, add in different tracks because I can’t find the LP or CD or even an mp3 of a song or band I had on my original list! And ofcourse I’m not much of the alphabetical filing person so it takes longer to find stuff. There was also new goodies being received every few days/weeks that I really have to play because they are soooo good! The catch is I haven’t posted the tracklisting for so long.
I also haven’t had time to ask people / other collectors to take part in this year’s MixTapes too (only Dale from SF and in the next week Pascal from France answered the call to play music!)…so if you are able, please get your records and CDs out and make a MixTape and dazzle us with your music! At least twelve a year would be nice but at this rate this year is a write off...so next year again I guess!!
The amazing title comes from that great Fallover 24 song “Cloth Stained Blue” !
Here are the bands and their wonderful songs…again my apologies for the long, long delay in putting up the titles, info, link and credits….even though the music was already playing in the Mixtape for so long…

More pictures on the PIC Section!
Vermont – “Two Weeks from Everywhere” (from the “Kinetic” EP, 2001 Tbilissi Recordings, KURA006) I didn’t really had the chance to buy any of their releases the first time around, so finding them again via Uwe at Firestation was very nice. I really enjoy their songs especially this track! www.myspace.com/vermontmusic
+++
The Wild Swans – “Young Manhood” (from the CD Single Promo, 1988 Sire Records, PRO-CD964) In honour of their live dates last month! It was amazing to see them “Live” finally thanks to Youtube. I hope they release more songs soon. http://www.thewildswans.co.uk/
+++
+++
The Vernons – “Facing Up” (from the LP “Smithdown Road”, 1989 Probe Plus Records, PROBE24) Great album which I enjoy everytime I put it on. Unfortunately not much info on the band...I was hoping they would have made more songs! especially love the trumpets on their songs and all those lyrics!
+++
The Tempest – “Lazy Sunday” (from the 12” single, 1986 Magnet Records, 12LAZY1) Another band that Cherry Red should be hunting down to release! They have a great unreleased record which they can compile and hopefully give the proper CD release treatment! This is a cover song from Small Faces!
+++
The Proctors – “Not So Far Away” (from the CDR Compilation “The Black Country Pop EP”, 2009 Please Rain Fall Records, PLEASERAINFALL001) Great unreleased song from this amazing compilation! Hoping to hear more treasures from this new label! http://pleaserainfallrecords.blogspot.com/
+++
Feverfew – “Casey Jones” (from the 7” Flexi, Mighty 3 Minutes, M3M480705) One of a few songs made by this pre-Blueboy band! I do think they should re-release all their songs, maybe find some more demos and unreleased materials. It will be a great tribute to Keith also! http://www.twee.net/Bands/feverfew.html
+++
Garlands – “Forever Live and Die” (from the CD “Pretending to See The Future: A Tribute to OMD”, 2001 Shelflife Records, LIFE30) One of my favourite tracks from this tribute to 80s electropop group OMD! Orchestral Manoeuvres in the Dark who young ones should check out too! If you haven’t heard this, it should still be available in the Shelflife website. http://www.garlands.com/music.asp http://www.shelflife.com/
+++
Barbel – “Inferno” (from the “inferno” EP, 1991 Imaginary records, MIRAGE024). I don’t have and concrete info on the band and was looking for the Big Liverpool book in one of my packed boxes to check but I never found it. More info about the band from other music collectors and fans would be great!
+++
The Daisychain Connection – “Julie Come Home” (previously unreleased) Classic guitarpop who thankfully was not lost into oblivion! They were kind enough to post their songs for free and will eventually re-release them as a CD…so please check them out , fall in love with their songs…and support and buy their CD once it comes out! Check out their songs (and other projects) PS I would still love to hear all the DEMOS from their 80s and 90s recordings, I hope they release that too!
McCarthy – “The Way of The World” (from the CD “I Am A Wallet” plus “Banking , Violence and the Inner Life Today” , 1997 Cherry Red Records, CDMRED138) I was a late convert to McCarthy…I would normally just put on their records and just let them play…sometimes never bothering on getting the song titles until this song came along and started playing…I just had to put it on repeat~!! http://www.cherryred.co.uk/cherryred/artists/mccarthy.php
The Cavalcade – “Meet You in the Rain” (from the CDr-EP, 2009 Self Released, 001)…They sent a “friend request” in MySpace, I checked them out and wow! I was hooked. Well that’s how I heard their great songs, I thought they were one of those bands that just send a gazillion spam all over MySpace that I just normally delete, but I was glad I finally went over to their site and heard their wonderful songs. I am still looking forward to hearing the new single from Edition 59!

Harrison – “Warmer Weather” (from the CD “Demos and Rarities, Volume 1”, 2009 Riverhead , SKIP3) A beautiful song that’s been hidden for 25 years!! Harrison singer, Matt Price compiled 2 CDs of all the Harrison (including High & Dry) songs, it has a lot of melodic guitarpop goodies including an early version of my favourite song “Simply This”!!…These 2 CDs are now a great follow up to that rare elusive debut 7” single from 1984! http://www.myspace.com/harrisonuk1984 http://www.myspace.com/mattpricesongs http://www.riverhead.co.uk/musicshop.html
+++
The Motorcycle Boy – “Scarlet” (from the unreleased album “Scarlet”) I first heard this band around 2002 when Tom at Indie-mp3 (during their early years) posted several mp3s of the band. This band was not really on my radar when they first came out so hearing them for the first time was really great and finding out that their singles were still widely available or easy to get was even better! Hopefully some labels can contact the members of the band and give this album a proper release!
+++
+++
Endless Bob Brown – “Never Again” (previously unreleased) One of the best unreleased bands ever from the mid-80s!! All their songs are great and I just can’t stop playing them since early 2007. The world finally has the opportunity to hear all their songs! BUT…it’s never too late to “officially” release them in Vinyl, don’t you think? I wish I wish! Check out all the band’s songs…. www.myspace.com/endlessbobbrown
+++
The Mary Onettes– “ Henry” (from the album “The Mary Onettes”, 2007 Labrador Records, LAB103) My carry over track from the last mix-Tape…I did finally receive my copy from the wonderful Luke at Popsicle Recordings in Toronto. I just hope they can carry the two singles too so I can get them! www.myspace.com/themaryonettes +++ Bob – “Deary Me” (from the LP “Swag Sack”, 1987 Sombrero Records, SOMBRERO FIVE). Finally, the band put up a website, and what an amazing website it is! You can hear ALL their songs (and they are constantly adding more!) in their site!! If ever they re-release their songs, I think it should be a nice boxset since their songs are all catchy and essential! http://www.myspace.com/bobhouseofteethwww.houseofteeth.co.uk+++ Mighty Mighty - “Emile” (previously unreleased). One of the best bands around. I was excited to find out that there were still songs that hasn’t been released before and hearing this from their MySpace site was just Amazing! Eventually this track will appear officially on the next installment of The Sound of Leamington Spa series from Firestation Records…so watch out for that!) I also also finally saw the band perform LIVE! (via Youtube) Check out the band’s site (and extensive history)! http://www.myspace.com/officialmightymighty http://www.firestation-records.de/
+++
The Men of Westenesse – “Brand New Cardboard Box” (from the CD “Are You Brothers?” 2008 Firestation Records, FST081) One of the best releases from this label! Uwe was saying that the band has more than another album’s worth of songs that are as equally great! I do HOPE that this can also be released or maybe the band can post them and let the world hear more of their great guitar POP! http://www.firestation-records.de/ Arc Lamps – “ Her Last Polo” (from the 3” CDr compilation “Blackstone on Top of A Whitestone”, Cloudberry Records, CLOUDBERRY403). “..maybe you’ll give her what she wants…”..sublime song from one of Cloudberry Records’ amazing 3” CDR compilation~! This one came with the Cloudberry Fanzine which I think it’s high time a new one is released soon! Check out more POP! www.cloudberryrecords.com/
+++
Clive Product – “There Goes The Floor Again” (from the MINI LP/CD “Financial Suicide”, 1989 Utility / Line Records, UTCD9, 00813L). “So One by One by One By One By One…Wow! One of my favourite songs! This was originally released under Billy Bragg’s Utility label! Say hello to Clive! http://www.myspace.com/cliveproduct +++
The Church Grims – “Plaster Saint” (from the CD single, 2003 Egg Records, EGG006) The band was released via Egg Records in Scotland. This EP quickly sold out but the label said they might compile all their songs into one CD and have them re-released in the future…Good news indeed for all those who missed it the first time! http://www.eggrecords.co.uk/ +++
Dum Dum Girls – “Hey Sis” (from the 12” single, 2009 Captured Tracks, CT001) Ah, my first Dum Dum Girls order got lost, I think it was the CDR….Dee Dee said she found one under the bed (the last one) but sadly I never received it! Fortunately, I did receive this 12” and its one of the best songs I’ve heard…looking forward to her gazillion releases this year!
+++
+++
Whirl – “Heaven Forbid” (from the “Heaven Forbid EP, 1987 Playroom Records, PLAYDI-12) I don’t have any concrete info about the band! They sound great though!
+++
+++
The Skin Games – “Brilliant Shining” (from the LP “Blood Rush”, 1989 Epic/CBS Records, 463285-11) I love this song! and whole lot of their songs in their debut album! One of the major label treasures that hey never seem to re-issue! http://www.love-song.co.uk/skingames/ +++
The Bluetrain – “Wheels Go Round” (from the CD “Some Greater Love”, 2008 Plastilina Records, PLAST010) I barely managed to get a copy of this CD from the good people at Plastilina Records…just in time before it sold out…but hopefully I heard from the grapevine that they might be re-release the in the near future with MORE added tracks! Buy one quickly when this happens because you don’t want to miss out again, right? http://www.plastilinarecords.com/
+++
The Gravy Train – “Why Does The Sun Fall From The Sky” (from the 7” single “St. George’s Way”, 1993 A Turntable Friend, TURN13) One of the best tracks from this band. I heard it playing somewhere before and I really liked it and was shocked to know that I apparently have the single in the 7” singles boxes!
+++
The Moss Poles – “The Whole World's Sinking” (from the unreleased second album, 1989 Mayking Records) The band that gave us the classic “One Summer”! They only officially released one album and 2 singles in 1987 and had finished recording this album before the record company went bust and closed down. Fortunately for us the band had posted all their songs including this gem of an album in their website. http://www.mosspoles.com/
