have you ever had a moment in your life where you felt.....uninspired?

Nothing is wrong.....your blessed....but oh ~ nothing is RIGHT?

Anyone that knows me personally knows I love Hip Hop... our distinctly African Amerian culure .....our music music .....

by our ...I mean who ever loves it truly ...like a friend

is being bastardized.  She is being pimped out.....workin the chitlin circuit after years of sell our tours all over the world.

Rusell Simmons made a comment ...something like..."Hip Hop is reflective of our society....if you want to fix Hip Hop....you have to fix society"

well.....while I thought that was a lame thing to say

...particularly when you are making millions off of it....also because you were on Oprah.....

I can understand what he was saying. ....when you look at Hip Hop.... the state of it...either mainstream (celebs, MTV, XM radio programs) or Local (Big Ups BMORE!).....its very reflective of our disfunction as a society.  NO one knows what is going on in the world.  See SICKO Michael Moore demonstrates how Americans are some of the most passive ppl in the world.  Hip Hop music used to contained elements of social consciousness...and you couldn't get on...unless you had a different perspective.  Now almost EVERYONE is a carbon copy of someone else.  Even when they think no one at a show knows they are bitin....I know.

If I were a rapper....I would be all over the fact that.....

We are at WAR right now....no one is talking about that!

Stop Snitching...everyone wants to come down on guys in the street .....and the president gets his boy off for lying to cover his and presidents' (yes GB and Chaney are co-presidents) a55es.

In Africa....black ppl are starving and being massacred in large numbers everyday.  The natural resources are being drained.  We talk about our oppression....could we (AA) endure that?

There are prolly more AA men in the 18-24 age range in prison than walking the streets in my city right now.

People are killing each other left and right in my city....none of these rappers is talking about that.  That is wack!  what else is there to talk about.  You a55 going to be singing the blues when they enforce marshall law if this crime rate keeps going at the pace its on.  NO is talking about that!

We have a Mayor and city counsel who appear imcompetant (not saying they are).....no one is talking about that.

There is waaaaay more stuff going on in the world than half the crap out here on the radio....on these cheap ass bootlegged CDs...any thing else produced after ....a long time.

DO you not see that this music is designed to make you a drone.  I know we make it, but....the whole lifestyle that is being publicized is defeatist.

It is pushing slavery.......on so many levels.

Consumerism is going to sink this country....and I see how this music (tho it has made lots of young entrepeneurs very wealth).....is damaging.  The minds of the youth already have so much information to process....we must become waaaay more responsible.

Its so crazy to even say this...because I love rap.  I do so very much.  I listen to it....I go out to shows....but this new stuff....man....its really terrible.

I watched 6 little girls dance around in a circle the other day singing the words to NEYO's buy you a drink song.....the were especially loud and enthusiactic during the part of the song...that goes "we in the bed like uh uh uh."  SAD!  not one was over 10.

The radio companies do not care.  DO you care? I care so

Talk to me!

Real2Real

Do I feel you I was just having a conversion about how the music doesn't have any balance and will never have that balance because you right society is rying brianwash not only our people but people of social classes or standards doing insane things mimicing the music not the culture....Not saying HIp HOp is the cause for our social ills but we need to educate as well as have fun brothers not rapping about being a good father...and alot of other things that alot of blacks are accomplishing and the woman jus accepting all the I need an a55hole and all this crazy shit n=but know one is talking about love and hurt and pain relationships no matter what type we as a people need to build up our race relations and consiousness to raise up our future...I total aggree with everything you stated because i work with kids and its said that they the word to every song on the radio but can't read and this parents are cool with there little girls being grown and before there time but when that same child come home knocked up they want to blame society we have to monitor the things we all indulge in. Know one is perfect but those of us or appreicate the things the people b4 us went through for us to be able to compete jus a little we need to leader by example ...so much respect always Mrs. Love on tthis great my think a like my the revolution being one step at a time...Writing is your calling from GOD luv thrust and believe so be inspired and touch the minds in the world Mr. Nance......

Thanks Mr Nance.

I know for a fact that you are a true soldier.

The problem is those of us that care....do not know how to get those around us motivated.

Getting ppl to give local rap a chance is hard......can you imagine the work thats involved in actually starting a true REVOLUTION (please look up the word.....I am not talking about a seperatist society)

I too have come to the conclusion that the revolution must start with ME.

There is no way that one or 2 pppl that really know whats going on in the world....can convince everyone of anything thing.

Music could be such a great force...a great tool in gettin this message out.

I would like to start a lobbying group.....whose sole purpose would be to remind rappers of their responsibility and influence. At this point....any company CEO would give little Wayne his daughter if he would mention their product in one of his songs much like Busta and Pharell with pass the courvosier.

Its so sad....the state we are in now......

everyone wants to blame rap....but honestly...we need to fix society

I used to get so pissed because i felt like i was working so hard........I was drained and had nothing left to give a soul......

so now that I've sat back and rejuvenated my self.....I am better able to see my flaws.

All of Baltimore (insert your city) Hip Hip are people problems. Its not the music.

A rapper asked me once....."what should I be doing to further my rap career"

I know he thought I was going to say.....meet DJs, send out press kits, travel, holla at the radio station.....

I told him read (one cannot master writing without reading), connect with your emotions and be able to explain them in simple terms (this is what ppl want to hear) and most importantly....love your self.

If you do not understand the importance of thos 3 things.....nothing you do in life (let alone RAP) will work. The ultimate goal of a human being ...should be ...to be the best he or she can be. To use this time on Earth for good.

Most ppl are so driven by unseen riches, hate, jealousy, need for power and esteem.....Vanity.

This is why nothing is ever accomplished.

When its about the art of making music and making ppl FEEL GOOD again.......the fans will come.

The laws of attraction is real.

I am sending out good vibrations.....I hope to get some back. Peace and Blessings!

ONLY - Forgive me while I reinvent myself...

As an artist, this is very important to me. By that, I mean that listeners and people that love different types of music and subject matter have a true voice in the type of music they want to hear. I read this blog when you first posted it, and I was inspired, I put everything I needed into motion to ensure that I make the type of music you are interested in, because im interested in that same thing. At some point, when people take an interest in the music to make a dollar, you start to gauge the type of songs you want to make, or more importantly the types of songs you want to market.

The other night, Friday night...I got a phone call and someone told me that one of my songs, "Wonderful" was being played on the test bin for 88.9. I didnt know anything about it, but it was powerful to hear it on the radio (honorable mention...it won that night so vote for me next week). But I never imagined that being the first song I had on "The Radio". People have told me its a good song, production is good, words are solid...But I couldnt imagine "selling" it. But its good music all the same.

There is always room for improvement on the subject matter in our music. With a ability or talent so powerful, why do we limit ourselves in the messages we could express to the world. I also think its a matter of understanding your audience and people's general interests. Most importantly, we should understand the artistry involved in the music we make, and the power that we have in our words.

But you have inspired me C Love...

Keep your head up, ONLY! Being different is not easy. I've been different all my life. Tho it has not been easy every step of the way.....my journey has made me stronger! I can withstand any adversity - I know when to roll and when to fold.

Tho you may not have a "mob" to roll with nor do you have drug dealer backing....you are going to be a success - IN LIFE! It would seem that far too many Baltimore (in particular) artists think you need to be associated with some form of criminal enterprise to be be authentic. ANYONE that LIVES in the real world KNOWS this is not true.

REAL LIFE IS NOT A BOUT KILLING, FAST CARS, DRUGS, GETTIN DRUNK AND HIGH, SAYING F SCHOOL. That is not real life. Those that believe this are black Peter Pan's "I don't ever want to grow up"

If we created rap......and make it popular......when did we lose control? when did we stop believing that certain types of rap won't sell? who sold us this crockof lies?

I watch you and the company you keep. I dont include idiots and losers in my circle :-)

My advice:
Stay true to u...draw influence from those around you....turn off the noise from your peers. Listen to NPR...pick up a book. There is nothing insightful to gain from life. None of us have been here long enough to understand everything. The benefit of reading the thoughts of those that came before us.....is that we learn that every situation and every type of person in America has always been here. Nothing is new.

We are all floating around lost....not having the answers...lashing and acting out because we are angry. I hear it in the music.....but expression with out reflection is not beneficial to anyone.

I can listen to ppl's music and tell they don't know shit.

PPl say...well this is all I know....WELL BOO! That's not slick and its time you pick up a book or use the net for more than to look at porn and post music and CD covers on Myspace.

Going back to the original point...when folk focus on being good ppl......they will attract GREAT THINGS! When rappers worry about being MEN instead of good rappers..... the balance we crave in rap will be restored.

Being a rapper should by one's minimal aspiration. Being a good Child of God should be all our 1. Without HIM......nothing is possible.

We must fix our communities..........rap could be a great vehicle for change believe it or not. Folk need to get to action and in doing so.....you will not only have a built in audience....but you will also have a purpose in life.

What is your life's purpose? Is it to be an architect of madness? Is it to degrade many of the most degraded ppl in the world (black women)? Is it to make ppl hurt as much as you hurt?

If you constantly educate yourself....learn new things....you will always have something profound to say. ALWAYS!

This is the problem with so much of the music today....... No one has anything on the brain but debauchary (pleasure....NO pain).

Far too many artists don't see that the "gangsta rap" ship has sailed

Its a NEW day...the ppl are calling for REVOLUTION.

I want to hear the realness. What is the authentic experience of the black man in america?

What does it feel like to be a white rapper?

What does it feel like to not feel pretty?

There is so much gangsta stuff that goes on in our country that if one never talked about guns or drugs again....there would be so much to expound on.

Only,
Ive seen the metamorphesis you've been going through.......its wonderful. <------ Just like your song!

You are always very respectful....you always listen....you never interrupt......you are ALWAYS happy to be part....how ever you can. These characteristics will not only assure that you have a long career (even if eventually you decide to follow the literary path) as writer, but that you will live alot longer time - a lot longer than many of your compadres (sorry to say) and have a better quality of life.

I am very happy to hear your song made it to the test bin. Make sure you tell everyone to vote. I think if you win 3 times you get a live interview...that would be huge.

Yes u are right on point know matter how much good we do in this world people always try to bring u down with there world which is not right i wish brothers that take care of there children got more love out here because its like we have no rights i know this is kind of topic but it still is a fact in the revloution because we forgot about hte black family and the communities we use to have when we were coming up....it took a village to raise me..now it like money and crime is the parents and the positive folk is the prison ..because no one wants to go in jail but would deal with there parents...it time for a true movement beyond what we can do here in bmore but the struggle starts here...much luv and respect Mr. Nance Clove you on point with this blog.......many blessings what up with that rock fish...lol..lol

You are not off topic Mr Nance.

Thats the real...Im saying hip hop needs.

If the rest of society gets all of its clues about black ppl from rap...then I say WE must start giving them a more well rounded picture.

You are an excellent dad. <------ I know your committment! Its a shame that you get lumped in with all these men (not just black men - please dont be mislead) that abandon their kids.

You are right....we need the village back. I benefitted from the strength, wisdom and safety of the village as well. I am not sure what my life would be like now...if others were not there to step up when mom and dad fell short.

You know Ive been working hard the last 6 months or so.....I am trying to square up my credit situation as we speak.....I have the down payment collecting interest..........I am a few months away from paying off my car.......Im almost there. I see now that ima have to buy house 1. Very few ppl have the forethought to even grasp what you and I are proposing. Creating a VILLAGE? mmmmmmmmmmmmh

I know that when some ppl hear movement and revolution they get all scared....LOL!

really yalll...its not that serious.

A revolution is a drastic and immediate change.

WE need that.

We need the revolutionary thinkers amongst us to step up!

I AM THE REVOLUTION. I dont need a million ppl behind me, but If I had it.....Id love it.....but with or without the masses.....I refuse to keep on going out like a succor.

We need a miracle, mr nance.

Amen. I feel you up and down C. Hip-hop needs a makeover and we need our real artists to step up to the plate and be leaders in this crazy game. The kids dont know what the hell is going on anymore. Nobody even references old school hip-hop anymore when artist actually had something to say in their music. Droppin like its hot is all good or whatever we all love to have a good time but Baltimore is a warzone. America is in debt and seriuos dnager of other attacks. AIDS is killing our people left and right. You see where I'm going with this right? Cats need to realize that there issues past the club, the block and your money. Nuklehidz make an effort to do the music we do because we dont want to add to the ridiculous trends that has systematically destroyed hip-hop. We may get shit for it sometimes but hey at least we got the balls to do something different. I challenge others to do the same....

"Nobody even references old school hip-hop anymore when artist actually had something to say in their music."

OMG! did you hear the new little Wayne song where he says "Now I lay me down to sleep, I pray the Lord my soul to keep"....he is saying it like its his...LOL! I bet these kids don't know that's a prayer and lil wayne is not as intelligent as one woud think - simply because he repeated something that is written (by someone else)

Not knockin Wayne, but these kids out here have absolutely NO frame of reference. I think Wayne is one of those rappers that might do a PAC on us. He doesnt cuss much now as it is....and I heard about him going to college and publicizing it - thats a step in the right direction.

Loved your post! You are 120% correct. I see you guys doing something different. I takes a lot of courage to step out the box, but the rewards are always so much greater.

Ima be checkin for the real in your music as well.

Who wants to address the N-word in rap?

Can there be a good rap song without it?
