If I Were King I'd...

* Bring the troops home

* Follow Washington's advice on staying out of other nation's affairs and focusing on our own

* Pay off the national debt by taxing the wealthy and the luxury industries on a graduated scale.  The poor (under $50G/year) would be exempt from Federal Taxes.  Those making between $50G and $200G would be taxed a flat 15%.  Between $200G and 1 mil, 25%.  Above a mil, well, you can figure it out

* Set the national minimum wage at $10/hour and the maximum wage at $10 mil/year

* Declare marriage to be a union of human beings

* Prosecute the warmongers and traitors of this current administration to the full extent of American Justice

* Legalize marijuna and tax it to the fullest possible extent to raise revenue for a national health care service

* Create a national health care service that can match in quality the oldest and most efficient models abroad

* Strict humanitarian oversight of all food and drugs

* Ban all lobbyists from all Federal Buildings

* Hold national elections for an entirely new Legislature, forbidding all incumbents from running for their offices again and perhaps convening a new, more capable and representative body

* Reorganize the military to become a more advanced defensive fighting force, trained in emergency management and defensive warfare

* Holding a Constitutional Convention, using the grassroots tools developed over the last decade, so that the American People can decide once and for all how their nation is built and functions.  Thomas Jefferson suggested that Americans do this every few generations to improve it and tailor it to the times they themselves live

* Turn myself over to the Supreme Court for trial, since chances are if I ever do become Dictator-in-Chief, it will be by some unquestionably unethical or criminal act for which I will need to account  >P

* Follow Washington's advice on staying out of other nation's affairs and focusing on our own
----this is why other countries hate us and why we're losing our status as 1 superpower (the EU is beating our portly asses) - because we don't consider ourselves to be world citizens. we SHOULDN'T just focus on our own affairs, because local is global. but we also shouldn't pretend we're everyone's daddy like we're doing (which is obviously what inspired you here).
* Pay off the national debt by taxing the wealthy and the luxury industries on a graduated scale. The poor (under $50G/year) would be exempt from Federal Taxes. Those making between $50G and $200G would be taxed a flat 15%. Between $200G and 1 mil, 25%. Above a mil, well, you can figure it out
----i'd put more subtle gradiations in there. i don't think the rich should be punished (though i agree that taxing them at a high percent would still leave them with far more than a living wage). and $50K can support owning a house and raising a family in most areas of the country -- you've been in nyc waaaaaay too long if you think $50K is poor. then there's also the fact that the rich people aren't using any of the things their ludicrious taxes would be paying for. the poor shouldn't get a totally free ride, i'm sorry.
* Set the national minimum wage at $10/hour and the maximum wage at $10 mil/year
----maximum wage is bullshit. read "harrison bergeron" by kurt vonnegut (or just get the gist of it: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Harrison_Bergeron). don't hold people back, clipped wings are lame.
* Declare marriage to be a union of human beings
----FUCK. YES.
* Legalize marijuna and tax it to the fullest possible extent to raise revenue for a national health care service
----this is a wonderful idea.
* Ban all lobbyists from all Federal Buildings
----ummm... they're citizens too, though. that would rob them of their civil rights.
* Holding a Constitutional Convention, using the grassroots tools developed over the last decade, so that the American People can decide once and for all how their nation is built and functions. Thomas Jefferson suggested that Americans do this every few generations to improve it and tailor it to the times they themselves live
-----why the fuck don't we do this?!?!?!?!

** I was more going for the fact that we should back off from policing the world and get back to taking care of ourselves. As great as globalization is, I think it is progressing too quickly for human beings to keep up with and this is the greatest source of international tension that I can see at the moment. And besides, why do we need to be a superpower? Can't we just take care of our own and leave the rest of the world to itself politically? Canada seems to be doing all right...

** I'm not saying that the poor should get a free ride. I will admit that this is a drastic solution aimed at evening the scales after 8 years of profiteering, white-collar crime and corruption on the highest levels. I also made the gradations as I did to ensure that the middle class and the lower class have the greatest possible chance of moving up the social ladder by keeping the top 1% under tighter control. Privilege and responsibility... Clipped wings may be lame, but the nice thing is that these policies are designed to be repealed once the problems are solved.

----ummm... they're citizens too, though. that would rob them of their civil rights.

** Lobbyists have become corrupt and irresponsible. The past 8 years, and probably much, much longer, are a direct result of the stranglehold that lobbyists have over Congress and the White House. I'm not denying their civil rights as much as trying to dam up the stream of dirty money flowing through DC. If it means forcing the politicians to listen to the people by being a bit tyrannical, then so be it. (God, I'm starting to sound a bit like Hitler, aren't I?)

Glad you agree with the rest. And, again, this is why at the end of it, I turn myself in to the Supreme Court for a criminal trial. The methods I advocate are inherently illegal, albeit effective and I'd rather not become the American Mussolini, but rather keep myself honest as best I can.

Thanks for the feedback on my opinions :)
