You know what's awesome? Being unemployed.

Yup, I'm unemployed right now, and I'm not being sarcastic about it being awesome. For those of you who need some catching up...

Last October, I quit my eight-year job at a local resort to work as "Communications Consultant" for Sprint PCS. Basically , I was a commission sales representative who also had to handle lots of non-commission customer service (getting yelled at by customers). The well-paying commission half of it made the the other half easier to swallow. Unfortunately, the in-store competition, coupled with low-customer traffic,  lead some of the other employees to engage in some less-than-ethical  sales practices.
After some time, these factors made it very difficult for me to make my sales. My low sales numbers lead to probation and, at the eleventh hour, my resignation.
Now, I had only heard about these snakes in my store doing fucked up things. That is, until my very last day. I caught one of our top performers in the act.
At once, I felt betrayed and relieved. On one hand, this person looked me in the eye every day and called me "homie" or whateverthefuck, while stabbing my in the back. On the other hand, I probably would have somewhat missed the job if I hadn't seen that sort of treachery first-hand. As it is, I am now glad to be rid of the job.
...So it goes.

Oh, and you Sprint customers reading this, don't worry. The victims of this deceit were not the customers. No no, the victims were colleagues, friends, and acquaintances.

Anyway, a week before I left the job, I went to Vegas where I won a decent sum of money. This is going to allow me to go a full month without a job.
Now, I haven't had more than two weeks off in a row in about nine years, so this is a big deal for me.
I am waiting to hear back from a job, but they are in no hurry, so neither am I. I am going to sit around, write and record songs, get some much-needed exercise, and just have as much fun as I can. About a month from now, I'll be going to Greer for a few days with Molly and her family, after which I will begin working again, doing god-knows-what.

Oh yeah, about my stomach, I can pretty much eat whatever I want now. I don't know if I am better, but maybe when I have insurance again I'll find out.

So if anyone wants to hang out, call me. I've got nothing to do!

I'm glad you're enjoying this role-reversal of me working 9-5 and you sitting on your ass all day. All I ask is that you remember all those times I did your laundry...

And please, have fun, but save some of that money you won! Put it where you can't get your unemployed hands on it!

Greer will be fun.

I read this and had to respond. Not sure if you know what I do for a living I've only been your brother in law for 11 years. I help the unemployed primarily with corporate layoffs. Companies hire me to provide job search assistance to employees they lay off etc etc.

This is my advised to you. Grow some thick skin if your going to play in Corporate America. It's a dog eat dog world and nothing is as it seems and the ones you trust the most should be the ones you watch the most. Take the Sprint experience and learn from it especially since the time that you wrote this you have decided to not give up on Corporate America and you have taken two more jobs with Compass. Again another lesson. Good or bad these are the experiences that define us and build our character. You are on the right track with this latest shift in your career with the Network Admin position in the healthcare field.

FYI - 78% of Americans are doing jobs that they do not get any satisfaction out of. We spend more time at work then anything we do other than sleep. Its not easy finding satisfying work but more important than money and fame is your health and of the 22% of people who are doing what they enjoy live 7 years longer than the average person. 84% of these people have kids who graduate from college and 72% of them have enough money saved for a comfortable retirement. The only stat that people who enjoy what they are doing don't have is early retirement. We actually work longer, I guess when you do what you have a passion for you don't want to stop doing it.

Good luck with the new job
-M

P.S. As a former Network Admin I found it better to ask them to move than to try to get the idiot monkey to open a command window. Thank God for VNC and Mr. Gates is going to hell in a bucket. Open source rules the world.

Remember this in your young stages of your career. You can't ever stop working it is what keeps us alive. Define what you consider work. If you are doing what you enjoy everyday of your life is it work? The anwser is YES but our society is not awaken to this or all the good jobs are taken atleast this is the state of mind of most and the leading cause to people doing what they do not enjoy.
