It's been a long time since I paid a visit to our good friends Frozen Mist and with the release of their new offering Espershades I decided it was time to see what the crew had been up to and what's changed in the world Of Frozen Mist. With the parting of the ways from label Mournful Moon Productions they have come to a new life and their music is now a more brutal full sound differing from the gothic metal sound of their previous releases
ELLE OF BLACK BELLE MUSIC: It's been a longtime since we last spoke so tell me how long has Frozen mist been going for now?
DARKJ OF FROZEN MIST: Since 2004, so that would be 5 years now.
E: That's a fair while so what has been happening in the world of Frozen mist?
D: Well, back in 2007, during the recording of Dark Seasons Of Sorrow, we had some issues with Mournful Moon Productions and I (being the main member of Frozen Mist) decided to part ways with them in 2008. In the summer of 2008, I have gotten a hold of Wulv from Funeral Dust to join Frozen Mist as a full-time member to add his black metal vocal style to the band. And once again, I asked Richard to participate in lead guitar parts for our new album, Espershades.
E: So there's been a line-up change then-how has that affected the band?
D: Oh, it has affected Frozen Mist in a great way. It was just what I have been looking for. At first, Frozen Mist was nothing more than just a gothic metal type of band, and now with adding even more elements with vocals and music styles, this lineup change has brought an even more fuller sound in an excellent way!
E: That's fantastic I must say the new offerings on your new release are rather beefy to say the least.Tell me how many releases do you have out now?
D: Thank you. And I'd say around 25 to date.
E: Tell me about the creative process of this latest release "Espershades" was there any prominent influences or inspirations for it?
D: Well, actually *scratches head* yes, this was originally meant to be a continuation of Dark Seasons Of Sorrow album, but later I changed the idea focusing on ESP (extra sensory perceptions), espers... basically paranormal references. I've always been infactuated with ghosts and the spirit world, so I just started writing about that and basically it became more of a concept album
E: Interesting!I notice a distinct lack of female vocals in this album as compared to former works-was there any reasoning for this?
D: Simple, no one was interested, haha.
E: Oh dear so Miss Rose did not express an interest to return then?
D: No, I feel as if she went her own way to create her own music, we are still friends though.
E: Well that's a great thing then! You are with Capcomia now-your own company I believe? How do you find running a label as well as being an artist?
D: Well basically, Capcomia is my home recording studio that I have created here at my house. And I just felt like releasing my music on an underground label such as my own. hehe.
E: Fair enough much easier cutting out the middle man i imagine!
D: Definitely!!
E: If people wanted to get your catalog of vast offerings where would they go to purchase them?
D: Well, the older albums are no longer available, but Dark Seasons Of Sorrow and our new CD espershades is available thru me at Capcomia Studios. You can get them by messaging us on myspace or by email.
E: Fantastic! Now I must say I'm finding your work alot heavier than your previous releases and I'm enamored with 2 songs in particular-Paranormal Perception and Telesthesia tell me about these songs!
D: Well, Paranormal Perception basically talks about a horrorful nightmare that a person might have about ghosts scaring them in their sleep and waking up in pain, and the fact that maybe you'll never wake up from this dream at all.
D: ...and Telesthesia is practically about seeing images in your mind, but their not very clear at all. You think something or someone is there, but then there not. more or less like shadows or silhouettes that disappear, but in your mind, you know for a fact you've seen something.
E: Intriguing stuff especially for Someone like me that is clairvoyant especially with Paranormal abilities!
E: What genre would you classify yourself these days?
D: Dark Melodic Horror Metal
E: I find that this album seems to really lend itself to death, thrash and a touch of power metal what are your main influences?
D: This is what makes Frozen Mist so unique, because we utilize a bunch of metal genres into our music. I'd have to say our main influences would definitely be death and thrash with a touch of black.
E: Yes you really have steered right away from the gothic sounds from before what inspires you musically these days
D: I, myself, have been listening to alot of black metal this past year in which Wulv has gotton me into pretty heavily. I still am inspired by many styles of death metal which I incorporate into the music that I write.
E: On a personal level how do you find balancing parenthood and marriage with your work?
D: My kids love the music I create and my wife just barely tolerates it, heheheh. I work part-time right now, which gives me more time to write music.
E: Oh well you can't have it all I guess-but at least you have an understanding spouse! So what are the future plans for Frozen mist-world domination perhaps?
D: Yeah, that would be pretty cool. Sometime in the near future, I would love for Frozen Mist to play live, but for right now, just to keep growing as a full-time band and getting our name out there in the world!!
E: For those out there that do not know your weblinks where can they find you?
D: http://frozenmist.bravehost.com
http://www.myspace.com/frozenmistmusic
http://www.myspace.com/capcomiastudios
capcomiastudios@gmail.com
E: What can we expect in the future from Frozen mist?
D: More albums of course. We are currently working on our next one right now!!
E: I can hardly wait to hear it!Ok in one word sum up what Frozen Mist stands for?
D: DARKNESS.
E: Thankyou for your time it's been fantastic to catch up with you hope to talk again soon!Horns and respect!
D: Thank you Elle. It's been a great pleasure meeting up with you again!! Hail Fucking Darkness!!
