"The Cush: Burlington's First Ever Artist of the Month!
Burlington's first artists of the month,The Cush, are more than deserving of this humble title. This husband and wife duo originally out of Dallas, Texas, decided to call Burlington their home after recording their first EP - definitely a brave move! The Cush are one of the strongest touring indie acts to come out of our little northern city.
Their music might surprise those who are only able to connect Burlington to the sound of Phish. Though they're a duo, the Cush is still able to experiment with harmonic vocals and electronic and twangy mixes that back up their intimate but intricate sound. They've got an undertone reminiscent of the more melancholic Death Cab for Cutie, without sounding overwhelmingly pop.
The band is currently promoting their second full-length recording, "New Appreciation for Sunshine", put out by the Undertow Music Collective. An appropriate title for a band from a city that gets about as much sunshine as Seattle, this certainly sounds like it was written during the cabin fever months we experience up here.
They're on an extensive New England tour this summer that includes residencies in Philly and Brooklyn, as well as a stop in Montreal, Canada. Tomorrow, May 6th, they start their residency at Pete's Candy Store in Brooklyn, and they'll return there on the 13th between dates at The Fire in Philadelphia on the 7th and 14th of this month. Each of these shows begins at 9pm.
The Cush is back in Burlington on June 27th the to play a special acoustic show in Parima's Acoustic Lounge!"
