Been a long time since I last blogged. Having three small children is very time consuming but if you ask my wife it doesn't consume enough of my time.
After selling a pilot deal to CBS this fall me and my writing partner, Jim Hope (he'll executive produce also) starting cranking out the pilot script. All went well on our end and we turned in the first draft a few days before the strike. Just like a college term paper, Paramount (professor), read through it and gave us back some notes (suggestions) to consider. Unlike a college term paper, you don't have to stick with the first draft you turn in. Most of the time a writer gets it pretty close to what he wants without the studio giving notes. But there are cases where the studio is dead on and makes some valid suggestions.
After receiving our notes from the studio we started to consider their suggestions as we went through the script again. We thought we would get a second draft done by the strike deadline but it felt like rush job so we stopped pressing. We have one shot at turning in a script that makes CBS say, "Okay, let's shoot this pilot." So instead of pressing the creative process we are now in limbo with the Writer's Strike. It's been hard since we had some good momentum going but everything in television is in a holding pattern.
Well, I say everything, but unfortunately some of our members aren't solidifying with the rest. But that's for another time. Just wanted to check in and wish all of my 'friends' out there a Happy Holiday Season, or as we say in my house, "Merry Christmas."
