As promised, here are the stories behind the songs. I'll put them in the order in which they were written.

1.) Chicago - This song is really about 3 years old. I wrote the lyrics one night from an outsider's point of view. This is more a story than reality. A lot of the lyrics I write are very personal and most times the things we're singining/playing about actually happened to one of us in the band or someone we know. There is a little real-life twist on this one though. Could I be any more vague? :)  We've played a lot of shows in Chicago and I was also born there, so it holds a special place in my heart.

2.) Honestly - This is the first song that Jon and I co-wrote. We wrote it back in January of this year. I'm usually very protective, anal and "insert any other word here" when it comes to writing. So it was a bit daunting trying to co-write with someone. Especially someone I barely knew. That being said, Jon Shoulders can write some serious songs! He's got a way with melody and fitting in words to sound perfect. He came up with the idea about one of his friends who was having some down times when it came to love and relationships. We thought it would be cool to start the song with her waking up and thinking life and love just weren't going to ever work out for her. By the end of the song I think there's a real sense of hope and positive thinking. With a lot of our songs, there are some dark areas, but there seems to always be a silver lining.

3. Lost Souls - Back when I was still working a day job, I would travel quite a bit and more times than not, I would be by myself on sales calls. I happened to be in Rochester, NY for a couple of days and I had just gotten the INTO THE WILD soundtrack. I hadn't read the book yet (still haven't) or seen the movie, but those songs struck a chord in me - thanks EV. I sat down in my hotel room one night and pumped out the verses to this song. I emailed them to Jon that evening and when I returned back home in a few days we got together to finish it. He came up with the cool guitar melody and added the choruses and I think even came up with the title. When we recorded it as a full band, we added a couple of cool effects on the intro and on my voice towards the end. Jon also wrote a cool little vocal outro the night before we recorded that fit in perfectly. This song is about listening to that voice in your head that tells you what you really should be doing with your life.

4. Meet Me At The Bitter End - We were rehearsing one night in early June I believe when Jon said he had come up with a cool guitar melody and opening riff. He also had most of the choruses done. I added a few things here and there and that song really wrote itself. This is a great live song. We opened our Virginia Beach Warped Tour set with this song. And it's cool to see so many people singing the words back to us at shows. I'll let you decide what this song is about.
