Do you have a friend who is a vegan metalhead? Does he constantly annoy you to listen to Cattle Decapitation and no matter how much you explain that the majority of their discography is mediocre or downright sucks he still insists to convert you to their “awesome, dick-flavored cucumber?”
If you haven’t already beaten him, killed him, and buried him in the yard from his constant blathering, buy him the new full length Kentucky Fried Killing from Animals Killing People. Why?
It’s extreme metal with an animal rights slant DONE RIGHT.
Animals Killing People is made up of Manuel Quique from Secrecy, Wilson Rairan from both Copremesis and Purulent, and on session vocals (for this album anyway) Justin Boehm from Orchi..omy. If you look at that pedigree and think “These guys must play brutal death/grind” you’d be dead on the fucking money. Animals Killing People play a style of brutal death/grind in the vein of Copremesis, Malignancy, Embryonic Devourment, etc. And it’s really fucking good.
The drumming is tight as hell, giving the complexity you crave while doubling it with an aesthetic sound that will make goregrind fans drool. The guitar riffs are equally tight, but extremely nuanced: check out the diversity of styles found on "Cruelty Free Interlude", "Glue Traps For Humans", and opener "Homo Sapiens Lab Rats". And then there is Boehm’s guttural gurgling. That motherfucker sounds like a fucking meat grinder shredding through a mutant giant squid; I’m now half tempted to hunt down his work in Orchi..omy. Throw in two excellent covers (including one Purulent cover) and you have a great brutal death/grind album!
As said before, these guys love the animals rights movement. So expect the usual PETA propaganda. However, Animals Killing People are also very tasteful at knowing where, when, and how to use samples. The samples are appropriate, well-implemented, and never run into the Mortician problem of usurping the song itself.
If you don’t mind hearing about how you’re an evil bastard for devouring chicken McNuggets and how the ghost of the leather belt you’re wearing will come back to haunt you, Animals Killing People’s Kentucky Fried Killing is a solid slab of brutal death/grind. I would definitely recommend it, especially while eating a steak with a side of shrimp, because I am an asshole. And it finally gives those idiot Cattle Decapitation fans a worthwhile band to listen to. Written By: Necro-tron
