Ok, this I have to blog about. It seems now that Obama has won and is now going to be president he might make good on his promise to sign the misnamed Freedom of Choice Act. It would be just as proper to name laws that segregate drinking fountains as the Freedom of Water Act.
The Freedom of Choice Act will repeal the Partial-Birth Abortion Ban Act, all state restritctions ..ion and other federal restrictions.
Um...wow. I'm not sure how to take that. I personally see the words "Partial-Birth Abortion" as some seriously foul language and literally flinch every time I hear them put together. Now we can debate the merits of all the other implications of this act many of which I feel are bad, but that still doesn't change the fact that it will allow...PBA...(I think I can handle the acronym).
What's worse is the bill leaves the gestational limitations ..ions a bit unclear. They reference the state of viablility, which is the point where if the child were to be born, it would survive. This number is variable and is slowly moving earlier in the pregnancy.
I'm really not sure what we can do about this since it will be need a congressional vote. Unfortunately we now have a Congress filled with Democrats which are known for supporting this type of legislation. There is a site focused on fighting this bill, but it is just a petition.
Arg, I'm all worked up and I am unable to write a clearly coherent blog about it. I apologize for the second rate prose and I invite you to out do me on the subject.
