Black Rose Records & Metronome Magazine Lisa Marie & Silvertone Steve, Shoulder Of The Road Press Release, May/June 2009
The brand new acoustic CD from Lisa Marie & Silvertone Steve, "Shoulder Of The Road", independently released earlier this year, will be available through Black Rose Records in June 2009, and it has just been reviewed in the current issue of Metronome Magazine!!
I have not read the Metronome review yet myself, but Steve called on Sunday to read it aloud to me... When I get a copy next week, I shall post it here for all of you. We have also been getting phenomenal feedback from everyone who has purchased the CD -- thank you all so much! In the meantime, here is a short blurb to be featured on the Black Rose Records web site:
Lisa Marie & Silvertone Steve, Shoulder Of The Road Black Rose Records BR-1033 Nashville, TN www.blackroserecords.netA musical landscape of acoustic roots music that spans country, gypsy folk, rockabilly, bluegrass, soul and blues ~ spilling lovely harmonies and tight acoustic arrangements in 11 original songs, along with 3 well-chosen gems by Nina Simone, Willie Dixon, and The Coasters... This is a tasty debut release by two talented New England songwriters, Lisa Marie (from Lisa Marie & All Shook Up) and Silvertone Steve (J.B. Hutto & The New Hawks). Metronome Magazine, June 2009 by Douglas Sloan Lisa Marie & Silvertone Steve, Shoulder Of The Road 14-song CD Burnin' A Hole Livin' Large Curse of Bo Diddley Shoulder Of The Road The Promise Tears Are Falling Drink Tequila With Me Please Don't Let Me Be Misunderstood You Can't Judge A Book Nowhere Left Jesse Down Home Girl Leaving You Catching Up
If you watch the blues listings of artists performing in local clubs, from week to week, you're sure to have seen Lisa Marie's name on the marquee. She fronts her own band, Lisa Marie & All Shook Up, as well as singing with a long list of who's who of the Boston music scene. And during that time, she's perfected a steamy, soulful bellow that transcends genres.
On her new CD, Shoulder Of The Road, Lisa Marie teams up with one of her All Shook Up guitarists, Silvertone Steve Coveney, an accomplished player who is no stranger to the Boston music scene. The duo shares songwriting credits while delivering a casual, front porch session that pays homage to a wide spectrum of influences from Bo Diddley to The Animals and Bobby Gentry to The Band.
John Donahoe makes a guest appearance on fiddle, mandolin and banjo on five tracks, adding his talents to the laid-back vibe of the album. Best tracks: "Burnin' A Hole," "Livin' Large," "Drink Tequila With Me," the soul stirring rendition of the Animals song, "Please Don't Let Me Be Misunderstood," "Jesse," the Bobby Gentry inspired "Down Home Girl," and the rousing two-step stomp of "Catching Up."
