Today was the final day of mixing for my next album "My own private sunday".
It'll be mastered on wednesday.
I'm really happy about finishing it and I must say that I think it turned out pretty darn good.
I had my moments of doubt, sure. The main problem was that at some point I felt totally unsure of how close I was to actually finishing it. I listened to the raw mixes of what we had done and kept thinking "I could add some horns/strings/backing vox/extra synths/extra percussion... but should I?"
At this point on previous albums I've usually gone "symphonic" and added loads of stuff. And usually it's worked pretty well too.
This time, however, I decided to keep it simple. So no horns (except 1 trombone on 1 track), no backing vocalists(just myself doing backups here and there) and just a little bit of strings (well ok, on 4 songs...).
Keeping it intimate, you know?
I'm not sure if you listeners will consider this album to be "different" from the previous two. To me, it feels different. Maybe it doesn't sound that different anyway.
Different, same, same difference. In the end all that matters is whether it touches you or not. No matter how I try to explain or analyze it, it's already finished, the music is there, waiting for you to discover it, listen to it and decide whether you want to let it inside your soul, heart, brain...
But as soon I have the master I will start giving you sneak peaks, one song at a time.
So keep checking this site for updates!
Peace,
Tp
