Dearest Zazouniks,
This notice comes late but we hope, not too. Please believe our excuses are worthy.
You see, having at the last minute been asked to represent ye ol' US of A at the Olympic Swing Jazz Marathon competition in Turin, we in Zazou suddenly found ourselves in training night and day. It seemed that the gold was, for us, just a dominant 7 away. You may wonder about the Swing Jazz Marathon as an Olympic sport and perhaps even doubt that this be true. But indeed it is. Alas, in our world of homogenous mass media representation, there are a plethora of Olympic sports that don't get their much deserved media coverage such as endurance yodeling while riding a unicycle and juggling bowling balls (for which Swaziland proudly took the gold with a new world's record of 12 hours 32 minutes 3.432 seconds of continuous yodeling/pedaling/juggling) or the traditional Norwegian seal balancing 100-yard dash in which an athlete races barefoot on thin ice while balancing upon their nose a seal who balances a ball upon thars (and unexpectedly Swaziland took the gold in this too). When you see artistic and exciting sports such as these, you wonder why everyone makes such a fuss over a few sissy skaters twirling around on ice!
Dear friends, we played our best for you in Turin but in the end, several of us collapsed after 36 straight hours of playing swing jazz. Ryan Hoffman, our lead guitarist, kept soloing for another 10 hours until he finally noticed the other five members of Zazou lying unconscious upon the Olympic stage around him at which time he went to his hotel room to practice.
We are proud to say we took eighteenth place for which one is awarded a t-shirt that says, "I competed in the Olympics and all I won was this lousy t-shirt". We don't have to tell you who took the gold…just watch out in 2008 you jazzy Swazilanders! Zazou doesn't give up easily.
So if you would like to partake of the little post-Olympic excitement with Zazou, hear ye here:
Tomorrow night, Sunday March 5th at 7pm on KBCS 91.3 fm: Listen to Zazou from the comfort of your own armchair. This show will be podcast for Ipodniks, oddcast for non-conformists, nodcast for the sleepy and broadcast for traditionalists. You can also hear it online by going to www.kbcs.fm .
Friday March 17th at the Pink Door in the Pike Place Market's Post Alley. Won't you feel cosmopolitan joining us for a touch of the Irish in an Italian restaurant for some American swing and French chanson? We will be in the lounge where non-diners may, if they prefer, only sip rather than sup. Show from 9pm –12am.
We thank you tremendously for your continued support. We'll make you proud with a gold in 2008. Until then, keep your toes tappin' and don't touch that dial.
