Been away. Haven't seen you in awhile. How've you been? (apologies to Dave Mason)
There is something about the Spring and Summer that makes it difficult to be an attentive friend. There just isn't motivation enough in the world to get me to spend any time on my computer in the basement. No windows, no breeze, no contact with the outside world, I just can't do it. I can't seem to return calls or stay in contact in my real life much less on this machine. Please forgive my lack of participaiton the last several weeks and forgive me in advance for my lack of participation over the next several months.
Beck and I bought our fist home a year and 7 months ago. I never realized how a backyard will change your life. Lazy Sunday afternoons have been replaced by mowing, planting, weeding, mulching, trimming, kibitzing with neighbors, picking up dog poop, and long hours drinking beer and playing guitar on the steps of my deck. It's work but it's also a bit of heaven. When Beck and I got married, my Pop built for us an Arbor. This Arbor now sits underneath a tree and is the grooviest spot in our backyard. If you can't find me, I'm probably there.
Another reason I'm spending so much time out back is that Beck and I just built a fence! Previously, our backyard was fenced (with chainlink, ugh) on two sides so we finally crossed the last 80 feet with a six foot privacy fence. Now, when I said "we" built the fence, I meant it! Beck and I dug the holes, set the posts with concrete, placed the rails and nailed the boards. Took us two weekends and we did the work ourselves. Well, that's not quite true, Beck's father and my brother-in-law helped us out on the last Sunday to get the final boards in place (thanks guys!!) We were the talk of the neighborhood as they all watched us manhandle the two-man auger for 10 hours! I must say, that my wife was a wonder to behold! Sure, we complained but our spirits were up and we both stuck it out until the end. I couldn't be more proud!! Now the dogs can run free in the back without worry and we can finally relax and enjoy ourselves.
Anyhow, that's all part of the reason that I haven't been here much lately. I also went on my yearly trip to Martha's Vineyard to set up the gallery, but I'll save that story for another blog. It involves beer and rockin' out!
The DC3 will be on hold for awhile. I can't handle schedules of any kind right now. The weather's too nice.
Don't worry, I still love you all and I'll be checking in often, I just won't be hanging around too much. If you need me, I'll be sitting on the Arbor, drinking a Bud and playing some blues.
