Madness; The observer or the observed?

Have you ever noticed the primates at the zoo, especially the Chimps or Gorillas?

If you look at their eyes, you see a humanlike intelligence, sensitivity and keen awareness. But are they acting themselves or are they responding to their environment? Probably both. Which brings me to the point.

As sick and tired of hearing about Britney Spears as most of us are, consider what it would be like to have small armies of photographers, peepers (so-called observers and reporters) watching your every move 24/7? How would your actions or reactions be perceived?

Imagine every statement you make, regardless of the circumstances and the immediate state of mind you happen to have, being judged and scrutinized relentlessly.

Who is insane here, the idiots who pursue celebrities to spy on every personal aspect of their lives, down to intimate details of their private relationships or those who live under a perpetual microscope?

How must it feel to have people hiding in your shrubs, going through your trash, using high tech gear and powerful lenses to "observe" you. You get the point!

I don't know about you, but I'd probably be called angry or unstable under such conditions as well! In frustration and non-stop assaults on one's life, fighting back or fleeing is as normal of a response as any of us could be expected to have.

The insanity lies in making talented people, celebs or entertainers the total focus of our lives. Our gods if you will. Worshiping their notoriety, fame or infamy and using their lives as a gauge to measure our own self worth.

Stop the madness!!

Haaahaa!!! One one hand you're right. She has issues. But, there are a lot of people running around here with major issues, and they still have the right to live their crazy lives in privacy. For that matter, on any given day, just at the right time, we all could appear to be a little off-center to an observer!

Thanks Nita...

That response is on point! Although being a celebrity is a double-edged sword. Surely, being famous for something or being media worthy for one's talent shouldn't deprive that person of the unalienable right to privacy.
Please be careful... don't blast the pizza delivery person with Glock!! Lol

Thanks Jamakka!

Joe

This is well articulated.

I think that it is all too easy for individuals to make disparaging remarks about others, without taking a moment to stand in their shoes. Yes indeed "stars" know that they are in the public eye and that they are being keenly observed, but I believe everyone has the right to a basic level of privacy.

I think yes, while it is perhaps okay to analyse the situation of others and come to conclusions which may be useful and instructive and perhaps serve as object lessons to help others or prevent them from going down the particular self-destructive path, the tendency is of course for observers to load on the disparaging side. In many instances the totality of such types of comments and so on is to such a degree of concentration, that there is no way that the individual or individuals in question can really find themselves in a rich soil for moving forward and improving.

True, the rich soil should in fact be an inner resolve based on a relationship with one's Maker and knowledge of the way He sees the individual in question, with all that that implies - "fearfully and wonderfully made", made for purpose etc. Supportive friends are also important. We would all agree that Jesus laid special emphasis on friendship. Particularly poignant for me, was the situation when the disciples fell asleep and failed to keep watch with him in those moments leading up to his ultimate cruxifixion.

I believe that as hard as it is to be positive at times with respect to those around us and even towards ourselves, we are responsible for the energy we circulate within us as well as around us, and towards others. No individual's downfall is ever funny and each of us has a high calling in being part of the human community. Therefore we should always strive to be uplifting to others especially when we are enlightened and have that knowledge (social, emotional, spiritual etc.) that gives us no excuse for failing to do so, albeit true that each of us, as wonderful as we are, have our own issues.

Humbly submitted,

Jenn

Thanks for your insightful comments Jennifer! We are reminded that we are all connected and without the grace of God, she could be you or me! Sad truth is, far too many find comfort in others fraities and failures!

Thanks again for your thoughts...

Hi There Joe....
Okay I'll enter the mix... :o)

I have to believe that she is mentally unbalanced and needs to be on medication. I don’t say that in a joking manner either. She consistently demonstrates behavior that is beyond self-destructive and clearly mentally compulsive. I understand there is speculation that she may be bi-polar (manic depressive). A manic state would certainly explain such infamous pictures and her complete lack of judgment with her children. Manic depression is more common than people realize and it is not a verdict of insanity but merely a chemical imbalance in the brain that affects a person’s mood. It is treated with medication and the sufferer can lead a reasonably normal life. The problem is that most bi-polar people become addicted to the high they have while in a manic state. In a manic state they can do (perform) the most incredible things... its like all of their creative juices surge to the forefront. It's not surprising there are many bi-polar people associated with the ARTS. Medication tends to flat line them…. Naturally they resist it. My prayer is that she would be surrounded by people who will really seek to understand what is wrong with her and get her the help she needs both medically and spiritually. She is a child of GOD; HE loves her and he can STILL use her life to touch others. I am sadden by her broken life and that it appears that no one really loves this girl enough to shelter her even from her own self....... In the end I feel compassion for her, regardless of her great sums of money and the stardom she has achieved it’s all pretty meaningless in the sight of losing her self-respect and her sons.

One question does nag at me…..What in all that is holy is this obsession with convenience stores??

Isn't there anyone in her entourage that has enough sense to keep her from going to
7-eleven's in middle of the day or night in the most ridiculous outfits!!!

(Okay... I had to digress but I'm back now) ;o)

PS: I also agree that the media and we as consumers should stop feeding this media frenzy. Good blog Joe….. You have a knack for getting us talking. Perhaps you should start a support group?? Just kidding lol God Bless- Have an excellent week!

Absolutely right Rita! She truly needs help, but as has been proven in many mental institutions, a mentally ill person can't be stimulated to a balanced state, while being surrounded by unstable people, in unstable conditions. Thus, her problems become exacerbated by her surroundings. Truth is, most or all of the issues we all deal with are spiritual in nature. Spiritual healing and maturity would eliminate so many of the ills that are a part of our world community.

As to the 7 Elevens and poor wardrobe choices, Haaaaaaaha, bad choices in her entourage and simply bad taste may never be curable, spiritually or otherwise! Ok I digress too! Lol

Thanks for your thoughts...

My Brother you are as powerful as you are deep. You always have been. "Two Ton Feather", anyway, thought provoking and the truth...so much so that it forces many to look into the mirror when it comes to heroes, icons, and stars. I am still here, this new job affects so much...still the music and my friends are so important to me...as always...till I can put it down like you do...keep on, be on, and roll on...listening and reading...YES STOP THE MADDNESSS

Hey my brother! I can't claim anything special about my views. I'm just sharing my humble opinion. But, thanks so much for your kind words!
You and I used to talk about being famous when we were kids. We've seen awesome artists come and go as quickly as their stardom rose. It is written that, "One's talent may get them in doors that their character will not allow them to remain in" (I'm paraphrasing) but you get my meaning. I pray that any opportunities that arise for us, will be first filtered through prayer, discernment and handled with God given wisdom. Then the blessing of fame and wealth can be balanced for the long haul!

Thanks Butch...try not to work too hard and hug your family for me!

Sherill: ~Kick Ass Angel~

To me - living in Europe - it is quite fascinating to see that people in the US, are so extremely interested in the life of celebs. Especially celebs whose life is going down the drain!
Why this hunger for garbage (!)? It's disgusting.

What is so interesting or exciting about the life of BS? Do people feel sympathy for this really unhappy person who's life is ruined (so it seems).
Or do they find it humorous, disgusting or something completely different?
Is it maybe that the life of mr and mrs average is so boring that they need the stories of other people's misery to feel good about themselves. It's a mystery to me.

There are serious problems in our world today, I haven't got a clue that people are more interested in double BS (Britney Spears' BS) than in trying to make the world a better place for everyone.

I wonder why this subject is in the news anyway. Instead of investigating Britney's garbage, the people should investigate why there is another war being fought for reasons of economics.
Could it be a deliberate action from the ones in charge? Maybe non-news, is just another way of drugging people. To turn their attention away from serious business and to flood their brains with "news" without any value.

Yes, it's madness, and it should be stopped.

Sherill, you are on to something when you say, the media focuses on non-news instead of real world issues. We get watered down snippets of serious world affairs, yet very detailed information about celeb's disfunctional lives daily. Understanding that the major media corporations are owned and "in bed" with the influential powers and heads in government, we are diverted from the actions of our political and military leaders to keep us ignorant. We're viewed as mindless consumers and not worthy of the truth of world affairs! But that in itself, is another topic for discussion. For now, I digress...

Thanks for your thoughts!
