There is a bit of grafitti, from The Undertones'- "Teenage Kicks"
The line is "Teenage kicks, so hard to beat."
Someone, the year John Peel died, graffitied beside it "John Peel  1939-2004"  A simple small epitaph for the man that changed the life of so many, a mark that remained untouched for 3 years!  Until this week, when someone, probably some scumbag doing'community service', painted over it.

The iconic phrase was what John Peel wanted on his gravestone, and this was someones way of remembering the man, and now someone has just come along and erased it.  Quite possibly the only peice of graffiti in Belfast that remained untouched by any paramilitary tags.  The sort of thing he would have appreciated, and now it's been taken by the sort of people that he fought against in his time.

Hopefully someone with some paint and the ability to write like something other than a drunken spider will step up for John

John Peel OBE (30 August 1939 – 25 October 2004)

Can't believe it was deleted just like that. It was a really nice uplifting sight anytime I went past it, it was just nice to see someone giving a tribute to Peel, showing that someone in Belfast has a bit of taste.

Let's hope someone puts it back.

I agree.

John Peel made his mark with many young people, including me, and to be completely honest, its a sign of respect to John Peel.

To be mearly erased like it didn't matter, is completely wrong! Whoever thought this was a clever idea, was grossly mistaken, and if it was a sodding Community Worker (mostly chavs anyway), then they should be placed into prison for a greater crime of destroying something so prolific.

Methinks Battle Chavoyle III should commence....

Good blog John.
