IR 22 routes to rootz is a vinyl and digital release .A special
limited edition 12 inch vinyl with full colour poster has been created
and will be given free to the public in conjunction with the artists
involved in the creative process of the recording.
The images of the vinyl artwork originates in the Solomon Islands in
the sOuth pacific which is also home to some of the indigenous artists
that apppear on the record.The arwork and design was created in brasil
by dubdem and the record itself was pressed at bob marley,s Tuff Gong's recording and pressing plant in Kinston ,Jamaica.
Indigenous Resistance I.R as an integral part of its work presents
vinyl records, cds, books and video free of charge to the public as
part of their
FREEDUB series.
This vinyl IR22 will be part of that as in conjuction with some of the
artists who participated in the recording there will be a special week
of freedub and a global launch for this release.
During a week in september launch parties and dj events will be held
simultaneously in bogota , colombia , sao paulo ,brasil ,
pittsburgh
pennyslvania, tenerife canary islands.
At these events the public will able to receive free copies of the vinyl. Pittsbugh's soma mestizo is organising a special event that will precede the upcoming G 20 protests.
The vinyl features the tracks "routes to rootz" and "indigenous & sacred"
Routes to Rootz is an experimental dissolve all borders dub and electro
track where a vast array of musicians, singers, artists from different
times and spaces make an appearance. Dub legends Augustus Pablo, Mikey
Dread (producer and participant in many landmark recordings by The
Clash) peter tosh,s drummer Santa Davis,Chuck D from Public Enemyand producer Freashmint. The trak features famed british dub poet Benjamin Zephaniah who refused the Order of the
British Empire from the Queen because it reminded him of "how my
foremothers were raped and my forefathers brutalised."On this track
Benjamin does a heartfelt poem against domestic violence.Traditional
indigenous singers from Solomon Islands,Sosolakam and Turtle Island
(the indigenous name for north america)
The mix presented on this vinyl was done live in the high altitude of
Bogota, Colombia by colombian Dj Rodrigo using a variety of Indigenous
Resistance tracks.
A full length release "IR18 THE DJ RODRIGO BOGOTA MIXTAPE' that has
other dj rodrigo mixes of IR traks was releases earlier this year .
The track "Indigenous and Sacred" is a special extended mix of the
track "tatto" that was released on the cd IR 10 Indigenous Dublands. On
this mix which was specially mastered at Tuff Gong in jamaica by gary
sutherland (mixing engineer on the classic Alpha Blondy cds) you can hear the full
extent of the colloboration.
Never before recorded traditional
instruments from the Solomon Islands & Sosolakam are brillantly
fused with electronic sounds and dub influenced textures by Soma
Mestizo ,3 Generations Walking producer SOY sos .In this track
tradtional indigenous singing by tuhununo an saevo from the solomon
islands blend with christiane D dub spiritual vocals.This is a track
that created on different sides of the globe with the internet being one of
the conduits to allow this musical collaboration to happen.
This colloboration was one of the most special that IR has ever been
involved with and this twelve inch vinyl with special artwork is a
celebration of this.
