Although the Ocean has been enjoyed by people of the world for ages, and with documentation of natives surfing back in Hawaii in the 1700's. It was not till Doc Ball's classic photo book, California Surfriders 1946 showing men and women enjoying a nearly pristine California coast with beach parties, fresh lobster and abalone just pulled from the ocean, that the rest of the country started to take notice.

It was in California in the late 50's early1960's that the phenomenon of Ocean Lifestyles became popular. The rest of the nation began to discover from movies and music what had only been known by a relative few, the sea and the sand that borders it becomes part of everyone who experiences it. At the time just a handful of companies were producing surf apparel and accessories. Today the industry that reflects these active lifestyles is a fast-growing $25 billion industry and booming.

Ocean Lifestyles is a six year old company in this lucrative market. The surf/skate, footwear, swimwear and action sports industries. Ocean Lifestyles reflects the lifestyles popularized in the 60's by the Beach Boys, Gidget and the movie Endless Summer. It is even more popular today than when it started. With both active and wanna-be surfer and skateboarder teens everywhere. Brands affiliated with the Sun and Sea are flourishing.

The Ocean Lifestyles Brand name reflects a high-quality product and covers a huge demographic of people who love to live and play in an around the Ocean. Whether targeting the active teen market, the luxury market, vacation lovers or coastal living adults.

Trends:

Surfing in the '50s and '60s was primarily a male-dominated sport. Today nearly 38% all surfers are female, (as of 2004 an increase from 18n 2001, Source Board-Trac, a company specializing in syndicated market research) and that number continues to grow ever year. Today whether you live by the beach or not, nearly everyone vacations in the islands or one of the worlds coast lines. Cruise lines are booming, which is evidence of the attraction of the average person to Ocean Lifestyles. The affluent of the world have always enjoyed this lifestyle because it is what life is about. Enjoying one's time with family and friends overlooking the Caribbean Sea or sailing the South Pacific. Scuba diving, deep sea fishing, building a sand castle on the beach or newlyweds walking on the shoreline, this is Ocean Lifestyles, the ocean is our playground 

The company's approach has been to build up brand recognition in the core surf and skate market through sponsorships and product placement exposure at events and on television. Selling mainly over the internet on oceanlifestyles.com and in small surf shops and boutiques. Ocean Lifestyles brand has shown the potential for wide spread national and international acceptance in licensing and retail franchising. With visitors to the website from 10 country's and all 50 states.

Although there is a fair amount of competition in the industry, it still has a relatively small amount of widely known name brands. Given a projection of the Tween/teen market (8-19) spending power will hit $243 billion in 2007, there is very much room for new brands and in fact the market will need them to continue to grow. In fact 84f kids often help parents pick out their cloths. Top priorities for this demographic is Apparel, Footwear, Accessories, handheld gadgets, computers and TV/Music.
