My WPRB "Transitional Soundscapes" playlist for June 11th
I really had a great time doing this show. I spoke to my friend Mihri
who lives in Istanbul Turkey when I was at home earlier in the day on
AIM and she told me that she would wake up at 4am ( her time in Turkey
) to allow herself to tune into my radio show ( 9pm my time in the East
Coast-USA ). I was so excited to have her tune into my show. She woke
up at 3:45 am her time and IM'd me at 8:50pm to let me know she was
tuning in. I asked whether she would be able to understand my english
and she said she might if I speak slowly. This was totally my intention. At
9pm I spun 2 songs and afterwards I went on the mic to welcome her. I
said "Merhaba Mihrimah" which is "Hello how are you" in Turkish. I
proceeded to talk about her tuning into my show and she was so excited
to hear me mention her on the radio. she said I mentioned her name so
well. She also recorded my voice on her cell phone as I was speaking.
It was so cute. I told her online that I dedicated my show to her. I
decided to spin a set of synthpop-electro-dancy music and catered it to
her. After a few more songs I proceeded to talk about her some more on
the mic. Just before the B12 song she mentioned she had to go back to
sleep, so I played that B12 song for her and she recognized it since I
gave her the link to listen to it 3 weeks ago while we were chatting
online. (I told her that I wanted to dance with her to it in NYC while
we would go sight seeing. She mentioned that "maybe it will can be a
day." I so look forward to this. I really was excited to have her
tune into my show. It was such a great feeling. I look forward to
seeing her when she comes to NYC to go to school. Its like a dream.
Once she signed off, I started playing a harder set of music. I also
wound up spinning my show an extra 45 minutes since the next DJ didn't
show up. All in all I spun for 3 hours and 45 minutes. A great time and
thanks to Mihri. Ben Cok Mutlu. :) It was funny. One of my
listeners had commented that he was not used to hearing me speak on the
mic so early in my show and he could detect that I was in a really good
mood. I mentioned to him why on both accounts. :)
