Current mood:  grateful
Category: Music

There is a reason I keep calling the finish line the start line. How fortunate are we to have more than one new beginning? After moving home to New Zealand in October, every day is a new beginning. I'm happy to say that 5 years since my first ever recording as a solo artist, that we are only a few weeks away from the release of my EP, Leaving Paradise. Relief and terror have to hug each other rather a lot at the moment and stability has been courting uncertainty for some time now.

Life is good and there is much to be grateful for.

June 3rd is the official release date and the launch is happening at the wonderful Leigh Sawmill Cafe on the same day. The recording itself is loaded with love and dirt. There are a lot of people to thank for this recording ever seeing the light of day and without writing a list longer than one cares to read, it is a very humbling thing.

This being my first blog, watch this space for more news..............

Tena koe Tama,
I was at this years Maori music awards in Palmerston north in February with my kapa haka group, Te Waka Huia, supporting our tutors, Pimia and Ngapo Wehi...and what a massive evening it was! I was sitting with my good friend Tiria Te Kurapa, who is from Manutuke, and she mentioned that you were performing aswell. When you sang " Leaving paradise" I was absolutely blown away by the professionalism and the calibre at which you sing. You deliver your lyrics with such passion and conviction, Im still not quite over it hahaha! Then with the addition of "Haramai a Pawa" I was just covered in goose bumps. You really amazed me that night, that was stunning....(: All the Rongowhakaata, Te Aitanga a Mahaki descendants in club were all saying the words with you, which was even more amazing for me!
I am a singer/songwriter myself based here in Wellington, I have a live unit called Hope Road, and I have told the brothers all about you..they were actually playing with Toni Huata that night aswell....sorry to babble on, but its people like you who inspire me!!!
I am really looking forward to your EP release, can't wait to purchase it!
Will be@ the Matterhorn with bells ringing...and at Te Papa too!!!!
Noho ora mai,
Ria Hall...
P.s my partner Kereama Te Ua was in the Maui production, he managed to scab a photo with you during the Auckland season this year, thankyou for that!!! (:
