I had a great time being interviewed by Chris Hawkins for his show on BBC 6Music. He asked a lot of questions about Broadcaster in general and about the Radio Ballads series which I've sampled on Primary Transmission. He also asked me five song related questions. The first was which song reminds you of primary school. Well the biggest thing to explode in music when I was at primary school was the Sex Pistols album Never Mind the Bollocks and as it tied in with the Queen's silver jubilee I chose God Save the Queen. Secondly he asked what was the very first song that really grabbed me. It was Changes by David Bowie which, although I was very young I had heard coming out of my brother's bedroom and fell in love with it. Then it was what song reminds you of a birthday party. I remembered a birthday party from when I was at college that would have blended into all the others if it hadn't been for hearing this song for the first time, I am the Resurrection by the Stone Roses. Then a song that reminds me of a great summer? Having seen this done live at Glastonbury with perfect weather and great friends it was Weekender by Flowered Up. A truly epic festival moment. Lastly it was a song that reminds me of a loved one. Well in a shameless attempt to squeeze a quality piece of dance music in, I chose Acperience by Hardfloor. I chose it for my great friend and long time musical collaborator, Manjit. When we were flat mates and shared a studio he got me into dance music with wicked tunes like this. For anyone who doesn't know it, there are various versions on youtube but the long version is the best. Thanks ever so much to Chris Hawkins for his enthusiasm for Primary Transmission and inviting me on to his show. I hope anyone who listens enjoys the tunes.
