Derek Creigan was a wonderful songwriter who's lyrics were exceptional. let me give you an example:-
"May I walk a lonely path where an hour ago we spoke and laughed". ( from the song "I Can't Walk Back" )
"Against my mother's judgement I did fall in love, or so it seemed those six long years ago, but I found out she was right and I was wrong, and now I'm paying with money, blood , and dough" ( from the song "Reflections")
" Darkness overcomes the day, the night wind blows it's lonely way, the endless papers move with rustling sounds. He is there, his body old, his walk is slow his hands are cold, no one cares about his life or gives him kindness and a smile". ( from the song " Mr Poor Man " )
" It's not so easy closing my eyes to things that suggest her and what she meant to me. try as I may I just can't forget her,she will be here as long as my eyes can see, will i ever be free?" ( from song "Doin What My Mama Said" )
These are only a few of the many brillant lyrics that Derek wrote, and together with his unique voice which anyone would recognise instantly if you heard it on the radio, he was a one-off who tragically never achieved his goal of having a hit song. Maybe this myspace page dedicated to his band Cartoone will bring his wonderful voice and songs to the millions of people out there who haven't heard it yet.
God bless you Derek, I hope that the new Cartoone Deluxe CD gives you the hit you deserve.
