"In the lead up to their 2008 ARIA awards, where their DVD City of Light is up for nomination, the Hilltop Hoods have announced this year’s recipient of thelr Initiative.
Adrian, aka ‘K21’, an 18 year old from Hallet Cove was selected from a hugely competitive application round by a panel of hip hop experts. K21’s recent Greenhouse mix tape made Adelaide’s 3D Radio Feature of the Week.
K21 will follow in the steps of previous recipients who are marking their mark in the industry. 2005 winners, General knowledge go from strength to strength, with the release of MC Detail’s debut album and their second album nearing completion. 2006 winner Subsketch saw his debut LP Cheaper than therapy achieve rave reviews, gaining airplay on Fresh FM & Nova 919. Last year’s winner Jimblah is in the studio polishing his debut album.
The Hilltop Hoods initiative was launched in 2005, when the group decided to give something back to the Hip Hop community and acknowledge the support they received from Arts SA at the beginning of their career. The Initiative is now worth $5000 and helps young and emerging South Australian Hip-Hop artists to manufacture and distribute a CD and offers with two mentorship sessions with P.J. Murton (Hilltop Hoods’ Co-manager).
Congratulations K21 !"
