I agree that it is the fans who pull all the strings in NASCAR..we are the ones who pay $75 for "cheap seats" at the races, who spend more than $20 for a hat that breaks after only being washed twice, $25 for a t-shirt that falls apart after less than 2 years.. The fans are the heart and soul of NASCAR, and they are the ones who should realize that this sport is becoming like so many others..it is full of itself before the fans..it is not the sport it once was, where you can run into a driver and say hello..Now, the walls exist not only in the minds of the fans, but quite literally in the ways that the new infields are set up.
The number 8 cause died when it was announced that Budweiser would not move on with Hendrick motorsports. We all have to understand that there will be some other driver in the number 8 red Budweiser car next season, and that it is not all bad. People make such a big deal over numbers and sponsors and the like, but NASCAR is, by it's own admission, a form of entertainment. As such, it is not to be taken seriously, or to be obsessed over. There are enough "real" problems in the world that mean a lot more than which over-hyped guy (or girl, for that matter) drives a stock car that is no more stock than the car George Jetson flew around in..
NASCAR has dug it's own holes in the past few years, and now we have to choose whether or not to lie down in them. Personally, I may take a nap while watching NASCAR races now and again, but I do not intend on following the sport into the ground. I wish all the drivers good luck, but remember that they are all just people, and it is all just numbers..
See you at the races!
