hey all. so...going in to this tour, we had great intentions of keeping you all informed of our adventures w/ daily (or at least weekly) blogs. but sadly, the nature of our existence on the road is that we barely have time to bathe and feed ourselves much less find an internet connection. so, here we are with a day off in santa cruz almost three weeks deep into the tour making our first attempt to convey to you the joy and hardship of our life as fledgling rock stars.
where to begin? how about the beginning? some of you surely know of our fourth band member, the humble and indispensible chariot, Vance. apparently Vance had some unspoken issues that needed to be dealt with going in to this trip. feath and brian had to stop and work it out with Vance on the very first leg of the journey. but after a night in a hotel in raton, NM, a bit of transmission work and a $300 rental van shuffle they were ready to rendez-vous with bacon in boulder for the tour kickoff and the three-day electronic joyride that was the communikey festival.
ahh...the communikey fest... what a beautiful and inspiring way to launch a D Numbers tour. our ears were so full of blips and pops, glitches and drones from the likes of pole, tipper and bruno pronsato that we couldn't wait to plug in and redistribute some of that bountiful inspiration.
so we left heading north brimming with love and music for a cold and dreamlike sojourn through the rockies. D Numbers is getting really good at just killing it for 10-20 people in snowy mountain towns. we're playing at the top of our game. now all we need is an audience.
we found our audience in pendleton, OR. it's one of those little towns that you've never heard of that's just full of kids ready to rock out. it was our first taste of the juice that was awaiting us as we approached the west-coast.
we've known for years that there's something very special about santa fe and the people that are drawn there but to see those same folks coming out in droves in portland or san francisco to support their new mexican brethren is to realize the strength of those bonds forged in the ol' land of enchantment. we keep getting the "wow...people never dance in this town" when our santa fe people come out to represent.
there are too many little stories to tell...playing a "bear bar" in san fran, brazenly cancelling a gig in san jose last night in favor of a 12 hr slumber...fixing a beer soaked drum machine at 3:30 in the morning after 10 shows in a row...we've done it all. oh, and boy did we party in the bay area. we were unstoppable... playing shows and raging it with old fiends and new until the wee hours and beyond. i think we're in love with san francisco and it's inhabitants.
so, i think i'm a bit typed out right now. we're going to the beach today. feath wants to fly a kite. oh, it's cinco de mayo too. fish tacos and margaritas for dinner tonight. feath mentioned green chile this morning and we all had a sigh of homesickness. from here we have seven more shows... no days off. this is a crazy and beautiful way to live. thanks for coming out to our shows and letting us sleep on your futons, for cooking us cheesy eggs, and soaking us in your hot tub. we love you all deeply and can't wait to see you again.
