It was a very special week for ATOM STRANGE. This past Tuesday the band had the honor of playing with one of our ALL TIME favorite bands KING’s X! We opened the show for them up in Hartford Connecticut at the Webster Theater. It was such a good time for us and all the guys in the band and crew treated us like equals. We played a 30 minute set and tore the roof off! We also got to meet some other very cool people at the show and made lots of new friends and fans and gave away over 100 cd singles! You can find the songs from the single Cosmic Disturbance” and “Come Together” on our player here on MySpace along with 2 new tracks “Terminal” and “Agenda 21” from the forthcoming cd COSMIC DISTURBANCE. Anyhow! King’s X were awesome of course and we have been invited to play in Texas with a side project of Dug Pinnick’s called Razr 13. It will probably coincide with SXSW in March. We will let you know as soon as we have confirmed all the details. We should have a few pictures up courtesy of Sarah Britany Somerset from the KING’s X show soon too so look for them.
Thursday brought us back to our hometown of NYC where we played at the Bowery Electric in the East Village. Thanx go out to Mary McC, Diane and Jesse Mailn for having us and making it happen. The club is very cool and hip with out being annoying and we got to talk with none other than Bob Gruen after our performance. If you don’t know who Bob is, I am sure you know his work. He has photographed hundreds of rock stars over the last 35 years including John Lennon (the super famous shots of Lennon with the NYC t-shirt and in front of the Statue Of Liberty) KISS, the Ramones, Blondie, The Clash… Too cool! Maybe he’ll take some shots of ATOM STRANGE soon! Who knows? It was a very cool gig in a very cool place and we will be playing there again come October 23rd for the CMJ Music Festival. Also on the bill were Sunday Masquerade and Eric Toast. Great sets from everyone all around!
Finally, we just got through first drafts of mixes of 2 more tunes (“Hero Dies Alone” and “Breathe”) on Saturday and will post them as soon as they are completed! That’s more than half way done for mixing of the whole 11 track record! The first reviews of the tracks coming are positive with references to Pink Floyd, Led Zeppelin and Black Sabbath! A very fine bunch if I do say so myself! I love classic rock, especially the harder and more ethereal/proggy stuff and hope that ATOM STRANGE will be considered “classic rock” of the 21st century! Thanx go out to Ariel Levine for such fine work. Look him up if you need a great engineer! You can find him through his band KINDERGARTEN in our top friends on MySpace.
Well ATOM STRANGE will be off for a little while not playing any shows probably until October. Our tour of the east coast this summer has been amazing, unpredictable and eye-opening for all of us and we can’t wait to get back on the road to play for all of you again or hopefully for the first time! We plan on making it out to the west coast in January if all goes well so keep your eyes and ears open! In the meantime we will finish the record and write some new material for our next cd! Wow! Already thinking about the next one and we haven’t even finished the one we are working on now!
