Single-Origin Espresso: Sumatra Gayoland (organic/fair trade)

We invite you to join us in our never-ending search for the perfect espresso. We've
embarked on a bit of an experiment and need your palates. Each month we will feature
a single-origin espresso in addition to our house espresso. "Single origin" or "single
varietal" means the coffee is grown in one specific region. Pulling espresso shots
with a single varietal rather than a blend allows the complex flavor profile of 
each coffee to emerge.

This month we feature Sumatra Gayoland. This coffee is characterized by its low 
acidity, medium-to-heavy body, and earthy undertones. It is produced by the Gayo
Organic Coffee Farmers Association, a Fair Trade Certified cooperative from the
northern tip of the Indonesian island of Sumatra. The cooperative members are small-scale
farmers dedicated to growing 100-percent shade-grown coffee that is certified organic.

Artist of the Month: Joe Crimmings

Joe Crimmings has been a photographer in Central Iowa since 2004 when he started
 taking photos for the Iowa State Daily at Iowa State University. While in school
Joe split his time between journalism classes and the College of Design where he
 tried to take any photography class he could get into.

Joe first started working with Aeon Grey of Central Standard
Records during a photography project his senior year focusing on local musicians.
Since then the two have collaborated on several projects.

The Central Standard Retrospective currently hanging at Mars Cafe represents a year
of collaboration between Joe and the artists involved with Central Standard Records.
The images include several promotion shots for each group as well as an album cover
used by the band Maxilla Blue for their 2008 self titled release.
