Writing a Book and Getting Published

1. Complete your book. A lot of people are interested in getting a book deal without completing a book. (It is very hard to explain your ideas without a sample.)
2. Your book should be about 50k- 80k words.
3. Have you book professionally edited.
4. Write a synopsis (Your entire book summarized in 2-5 pages.)
5. Write a Query Letter (A letter to an agent explaining who you are and what your book is about.)
6. You need an agent (An agent is like a filter between you and the publishing houses.)

Visit the following sites for more info:

Hi Daaimah,

Thank you for sharing this information. I have read similar blogs by Connie Briscoe and other writers giving advice. There is one question I have related to this: In regards to 'Have your book professionally edited' do you mean have the book edited by an editor, before or after you've gotten signed to an agent? Most writers, including myself, do not know who the reputable editors are. And I've heard that most editors, who are not with publishing houses and aren't linked to your agent, will charge thousands of dollars to work on a manuscript.

If you have any suggestions toward the subject of editors that would be great information. Best wishes for your forthcoming book, A Rich Man's Baby.
