Current mood:  cheerful
I know you're not supposed to listen to good or bad reviews but... this still makes me feel good :)
And I feel the reviewers really listened to the music and heard what I intended :)

From The Penguin Guide to Jazz Recordings- Eighth Edition:

Phil Grenadier:Brother of bassist Larry Grenadier and a sophisticated bandleader

Sweet Transients--***(*) 2nd highest ranking(An excellent record, with some exceptional music.Only kept out of the front rank by some minor reservations.)

Playful Intentions--**** Highest Ranking(Very fine:an outstanding record that yields consistent pleasure and is a notable example of the artist's work)

"The talented Grenadier brothers enjoy a fraternal moment on the debut disc with a lovely version of 'Lonely Women', the Horace Silver composition rather than the Ornette one. The Ornette connection is made with a couple of other tracks, most obviously the two-bass instrumentation used for Beck's 'Derelict'(a more interesting contemporary pop cover than most) and in 'Emma', which has a curiously stark quality. Only the title-track is an original composition, though 'Cali Mist' is spontaneously improvised. (Ethan)Iverson occasionally sounds out of touch with the rest of the group but he plays well when he clicks into action and the closing read of 'Nefertiti' is superb from all concerned.

The second record is much more assured and assimilates its pop and rock(Fiona Apple, Radiohead)material much more comfortably than before.'Idioteque' is actually one of the highlights of the record. Elsewhere, Grenadier, tries to keep the 'jazz' quotient up with a stunning 'Speak Low', but the real coup of the record is "What Is This Unanswered Question" which might be thought to be a hybrid of Charles Ives and "What Is This Thing Called Love?". Clever and brilliantly done as a kind of abstract fusion. Again there are touches of free jazz and open improvisation, but more securely melded to the written charts elsewhere. Less need, perhaps, to show off versatility on a second record. The new band combines well and things look very bright indeed for Grenadier minor."
