Over the past few months I've been working on a new project. Artistic projects, for me anyway, always start with an idea of where I want to go but end up someplace completely different. Which is wonderful because it makes the creative journey even more exciting.
So, this project has been similar to my previous processes; very organic, almost taking on a life of it's own. I feel like I'm discovering as I go, really. And so it is with this demo of one of the songs I've written - Elohim. I say "demo" but feel I need to explain just what I mean by that. A demo is like looking at a sketch drawing as opposed to the end painting. All the colors aren't there, yet. So, what you're listening to is not the final vocal or the final sounds, or the final anything. It's just the general direction - melodically, lyrically, and with a sound or two - that gives the listener an idea of what the song will be. I'm sharing these demos with you so that you can get a peak into the process, the journey, that I'm on.
About "Elohim" - It means God, the Mighty One, and the lyrics came to me as I began thinking about those who suffer around the world. People who are just trying to live their lives, but are abused or treated terribly for no apparent reason except that there are those so filled with hate and bitterness around them to do the job. The song became a prayer for those people - wherever they are - and I ask that Elohim would "do what You've done for me." I pray this song blesses you in some special way.
Thanks so much for listening! Mary-Kathryn
