Neapolitan producer Abyss comes to Renaissance for his debut release with the label…

Abyss shot to prominence in 2006 signing his first two releases to Buzzin’ Fly: ‘Mind Games’ and ‘Dreamer’. This release caught the much-respected ear of John Digweed, who included both tracks on his mix album: Transitions Vol.2. He followed this up with two tracks on Forensic Records, but when we heard his new track ‘Hiccups’ we knew it was definitely time to enlist Abyss for Renaissance Recordings’ first release of ’09.

First up is the Club mix, which has been rocking underground dancefloors for a while now, with its quirky arrangement and deconstructed vocal hook. An irresistible, tribal drum pattern gives the track a bumpety, Chicago feel before the undulating synth-line takes over and the party starts.

The dub version takes things in a darker direction, into more ‘heads down’ territory. The percussion is tighter and more direct, using a range of effects to twist up the original hook. The bassline swells and falls around the tribal drum loop, resulting in a trippy excursion into the late night dancefloor physce of Abyss.

Full of wonder and an inescapable rump-shaking groove: this release is set to defy genre classification as it takes over the world, one dancefloor at a time.
