Hello
friends, the album I started work on back in February, is as I type, is being
mass produced in preparation for release. Yes, the "Elixir" project
(as it began life as...) has come full circle. Beginning life as demoing
sessions, then being considered as a pair of E.P.s & finally becoming an
album in its own right. It's been a wonderful journey, and my first at the helm so to speak (in
Production terms...). And as people ask me what to expect from it, I genuinely
find it hard to explain in simple terms. "Is it anything like
Beautification?" I've been asked, and in a nutshell the answer is no. This
album is certainly a lot more eclectic & genre spanning. Whereas my debut
album had a fine Pop / Rock sheen, this record owes a lot more to the sum of
the influences that have shaped it. Influences as far back as I can remember,
some subliminal, some more contemporary. I've done my best to let the songs
find their natural gravity, in some cases keeping the arrangements sparse and
simple. We had recorded a lot more tracks than you'll eventually hear on
"My Sweet Elixir", the time came to narrow down the final twelve,
always a hard choice, but I think I've selected correctly. The others will no
doubt surface probably as MySpace exclusives eventually. Along the way I joined the Renaissance Records family of eclectic indie
artists. I'm delighted the new album is now being championed the folks there,
and will therefore warrant a worldwide physical release. It's a comfort to have
these folks in my corner in this challenging recession fuelled turbulence. After testing out some of the new material here in Dublin, it's off to further
afield, the part I enjoy best. It's all very well being snug in some studio
somewhere singing ones brains out, but even better to hear it being received
live up close and personal. The true test of one’s toil is in the resounding
applause (or not as the case may be..) one strives so eagerly to bask in.
As the new Year approaches with ever gaining momentum, I strive to perform a
hell of a lot more shows than previous outings, to endeavour to win you all
over (and some of your friends too). To keep abreast of all things related to the new album,
please befriend me at
www.myspace.com/mysweetelixir (located in my top friends...);
here you'll be treated to exclusives, full album lyrics, and much much more in
the weeks and months yet to come. Thank you for your many mails and comments of
encouragement & I hope to see you all at a show very soon.
