First of all, we're big fans. If you didn't know that about us, you never knew us, period. Since disbanding, it's been a pleasure to focus on just being fans again.

I actually drove to the Egyptian Theatre and watched the very first world premier viewing of Traktor's "Yeah Yeah Yeah Yeah" Music Video there just to be able to say "I was one of the first."

I was crazy enough to actually enter the "Dance on Stage with the Flaming Lips NYE 2007" contest (glad I lost and got to watch the show instead!).  And my bro and I are collectively member number 150+15 of the Steven Drozd Appreciation Club.

We've watched the Fearless Freaks DVD a number of times, and every CD we can get in 5.1 DVD dolby, we do!

So the long awaited "Christmas On Mars" is finally done and going to be shown at the Sasquatch music festival. The Lips are on Monday, don't really have any interest in staying all three days, not really into any of the other bands.

Booked the Monday show date in the first 48 hours tickets went on sale. There were three days of festival, only one band we really wanted to see so tickets were purchased for Monday the 26th only. The Flaming Lips are going to finally show CoM man! We thought "hey, we're gonna be one of the first people to see the premier viewing of  this film" (now seven years plus in the making.)

For Astro it's a mere 5 hour scenic drive to the Gorge in George, Washington. What a beautiful venue! For me, I had to book a flight from SoCal, and take a day of upaid leave from work, and book a hotel room for the night of the Lips. But it's gonna all be worth it, right? CoM on!

Well time went by and I noticed the Sasquatch line up was going through some changes. I couldn't believe my eyes, one of the things was that  the CoM showing was NOT going to be the same as the Lips UFO performance date. This blew my mind.

I panicked. I bothered Kliph and Steven with MySpace mail asking if I should reschedule my flight, my hotel, WTF should we do? Being the thoroughly upstanding gentlemen they are both replied with the best answer they could, even after consulting Scott Booker on the matter, only time was going to tell.

I realize a lot of people tried to make it happen but the venue has the final word and they just got done with some crazy experiences with the showing earlier so it simply was not to be for we who went only on Monday.

From what I read on the
flaminglips.com bored there were some who didn't get to see the show I guess, because the free tickets got dealt out and ran out fast. Ya I can imagine! And there was some confusion on the show times. Kudos to those who saw it first, I envy you who were the chosen ones.

Well, all's well that ends well and it turned out to be a righteously kick-ass show regardless. Will just have to catch CoM some other time. I'm saddened I cannot tell my grand kids about the how I saw the very first viewing but what I did see was one helluva bitchen show!

The boys decided to do a cover of Led Zepplin's "The Song Remains The Same" and I'll be damned if four or five fine babes decided to dance on stage in nothing but their birthday suits... which for some of us actually really helped ease the pain of NOT getting to see CoM. Special thanks to those free-spirited fine young things and the Animal Wrangler who I'm guessing picked 'em out!

My camera phone battery died minutes beforehand. If there was such a thing as the hand of God I just got poked in the eye by it. Can you believe that shit? Oh well do a Google Image search or Pitchfork and you'll find them. The camera doesn't do them justice, you had to be there man!

Any Lips live-show fan can tell you that you'll never know just what to expect and that every show, though similar in structure enough that you might hear some whiney complaints from a few which amaze me. Even the freakin' sound check was new and exciting. And if you haven't seen them live yet... you better move it way up on your bucket list fast!

Biggest bonus for me though was the fact that they've listened to their fans who happen to know them for more than just their Yoshimi stuff. Who ever decided they're gonna play "Mountain Side" freakin' made my flight, hotel, gas, grub, and docked pay ALL worth it - and THEN some! Was awesome to see Wayne on the guitar for so much more of the show. He did a great and long rythm guitar solo for us. Michael was in fine form and his bass sounded better than ever!

We also wanted to say how moved we were by the bands efforts to honor Memorial Day as they did. Having a Bugel to play Taps with while Kliph earnestly holds his right arm out with hand held in the universally recognized peace sign really sent the message home.

Think of all the brothers, and sisters, that could have been there with us in the audience Monday night if this crazy war wasn't still in play.  If you read back in history on our blogs here you will see we have a favorite charity who helps those coming back home with major disabilities and behavioral health issues to deal with (suicidal tendencies are extrememely high for those who just wanted to defend the Country they love).  Hope you'll give. If you do, a free copy of the rare and ellusive  "An Anthology of 'Rats" is yours for the asking. That's gonna be worth a shiney nickel some day I bet and you'll be doing something cool.

I'll pass this bit
from the show on to you ... use your noggin when it comes time to vote folks! Watch out for the "Fanatical Fucks"! Peace!

JJ
