i was part of a group of a dozen or so people who addressed the city of pittsburgh planning commission yesterday about a proposed strip club on west carson street at the entrance to the 8 west end neighborhoods. i have nothing against strip clubs, really. some of my best friends are perverts : ) although if i were looking for one, i'd definitely opt for the full on amusement park glitz n glamour variety over the kind that patrick risha (son of west mifflin school superintendent patrick risha sr.) is trying to open on the west side. small, dark, dirty, no parking, and on one of the most dangerous stretches of road in the city. oh yea - and right next door to the onala club, a long standing treatment center for people fighting drug & alcohol addiction. not exactly the makings for great neighbors.
anyway - we were successful !
the planning commission voted unanimously against risha's "special use" permit. here's local news coverage as of late last night -
