Since the last entry was so awful, I thought I'd throw in an extra entry. This photo from the University of San Diego History Depatment purports to show the Mission Valley Shopping Center in 1961. I don't buy it. Unless I miss my guess, the building in the center left of the photo is the Center Theater which opened in 1965. And until I get some good photos of the Center, it's the only photo of that theater on the internet.
In any regard, it's a nice photo, even if it is of a shopping mall.

I don't believe what you are seeing is the Center Theater, it was further west on I-8 (down in the picture) and you could see it from the freeway, not behind Wards>

I'd love to get someone from the San Diego Historical Society to give a final verdict- but they think San Diego History ended in 1948 and are effectively useless when it comes to topics after that year.
The reason I say the building is the Center, is because the roof that slopes upwards like the Center (the structure still exists, even if it's a shoe store) and the approximate address is correct (I-80 and Stadium Way).
Anyone care to chime in?
