The cool ones among you are going to see Batman: The Dark Knight at this very moment. Tell me how it is. I'm seeing it in about 13 hours. But this wouldn't exist without the 1989 version, presented for your amusement.
Oddly enough, it was this version that really got me into movies and super-hero comics.
Batman delivered the requisite thrill I needed to search out movies that may or may not be just as awesome to my 12 year old brain.
This movie also marks the beginning of my long devotion to the San Diego Comic Con. 1989 was the first year I went and... I couldn't wait to go back.  It's changed considerably since that summer 19 years and I miss the lax nature of the affair which only hosted about 12,000 attendees (as opposed to the 125,000 expected this year). I also miss the comfortable seats of the Civic Center auditorium where the big panels were held- Hall H is too much of an industrial affair to be enjoyable.
Okay, off track, but I want you all to remember how cool things were (well, sort of) 19 years ago when everyone was doing their best, "I'm Batman."

San Diego Union E-11. Friday 23 June 1989.
