Who Gives Kudos:

Wednesday, December 24, 2008

Current mood:  pensive

1. Took a vacation

2. Went out with a guy I ended up being great friends with

3. Cried a lot

4. Talked to an old boyfriend endlessly

5. Filed all my CDs and vinyl (this was a MAJOR project)

6. Lost 5 pounds and went from blonde to redhead

7. Produced the Hot Rods-n-Honeys custom car show with Mercury Charlie

8. Cleaned my closets and gave away 3 garbage bags of clothes

9. Ran the Gourds' merchandise table at the Armadillo Christmas Bazaar

10. Produced the 5-week NEXT UP: THE U18 AUSTIN MUSIC SHOWCASE for teenage bands and singer-songwriters that was so phenomenally successful, an SXSW showcase has developed out of it and we return to Threadgill's for the spring series in April 2009.

Of all the things I did, 10 was the coolest. I saw more fantastic talent than I could imagine coming out of kids 15, 16, 17, 18 ... I have a list of 37 working bands under the age of 18 from death metal to hip-hop to singer-songwriters. Guess what I am going to be doing throughout 2009!

Merry Christmas and other holiday wishes to all with  special love and affection to all who took the time to respond on and offlist to my broken heart. It's a little better now, thanks.

Regarding number five:

Dick: I guess it looks as if you're reorganizing your records. What is this though? Chronological?

Rob: No...

Dick: Not alphabetical...

Rob: Nope...

Dick: What?

Rob: Autobiographical.

Dick: No fucking way.

I sure am glad you took that vacation I wouldn't have been able to hang out with you if you hadn't! I can't say I was that accomplished in 2008. Maybe 2009 will be my year!
Happy holidays!

I'm sorry that I didn't know how things were going with you, but I'm glad you rose above it. That list is a great idea and I think I'll start compiling one to get over my bruised-but-not-broken (thank god) heart :D Merry Christmas!

Um, in case you're still not quite over it, I have some closets?

Just a thought :)

I have never felt bad enough to catalogue all my CDs & vinyl, lol... don't think it will happen in this lifetime.

Five years later from the death of my spouse, I still go from the penthouse to the outhouse in the blink of an eye due to counbtless memory triggers.

However those swing moments are far less frequent these days. And truthfully I'm not sure I want them to go away completely. I think the main thing is to not to repeatedly burden new people in your life with these private moments.

In some ways it truly is water under the bridge. Always remember the great times. But move on to the next great times. Live in the moment and make sure to cherish those new great times as they manifest into your life.

As Robert Wagner kept saying in his latest talk show tour promoting his book, which talks about the death of his wife Natalie Wood, he must remember to not say "What if" but to keep saying "What is."

And let me guess ... underlying all of them was your listening to Buckley while cleaning out the closets, cataloguing your music, et al. Great choice.
