City: (RBG!) RAP BROWN
State: Georgia
Country: US

Who Gives Kudos:

April 30, 2009 - Thursday

Between August 14th and August 16th in Atlanta, GA, The Original Black August Organizing Committee, The FTP Movement and Happily Natural will be sponsoring one of the biggest events in regards to the issue of Political Prisoners that this country has seen.

Marking 30 years of Black August Resistance, we intend on making it enjoyable and memorable.

Being that at this time it is self-sponsored, the expenditure for venues, permits, equipment, security, insurance and a whole host of other things is quite costly.  We are asking you to assist us by donating whatever you can to support this righteous cause and to support our Political Prisoners (who have supported us).

We are accepting donations of any amount as big as you want or a small as you can afford.  $1 and up!

Together the ants will conquer the elephant!

Thank you in advance for you support.

WHAT IS BLACK AUGUST?

Black August originated in the concentration camps of California to honor fallen Freedom Fighters, Jonathan Jackson, George Jackson, William Christmas, James McClain and Khatari Gaulden. These individuals who were brutally murdered by the hands of the California penal system, have yet to have their cases solved and have been forgotten by most. In addition, prison guards assassinated George Jackson (brother of Jonathan Jackson) during a Black prison rebellion against their inhumane living conditions, at San Quentin on August 21, 1971. Three prison guards were also killed during that rebellion and prison officials charged six Black and Latino prisoners with the death of those guards. These six brothers became known as the San Quentin Six.

Some of the past guests who have participated in the Commemoration of Black August include: Dead Prez, Pam Africa, Mos Def, Boots Riley, Common, Dave Chappelle, Erykah Badu, Black Thought & Many Others.

Proceeds go toward legal expenses, commissary and the ongoing education and promotion of the cause.

What is a Political Prisoner?

A political prisoner is someone who was targeted and imprisoned because of his or her political actions, affiliations and/or beliefs.

Why Should They Be Supported?

They should be supported because these individuals were committed to confronting the oppression and exploitation in their communities that made their lives and the lives of their neighbors intolerable.
