I come from Cajun cooking with love.
I come from rock,
and hip hop,
zydeco, blues, in an 18-wheeler with Papa on the way to the nearest gas station.
I come from the smell of black polishing grease,
and touching it even though it was hard to get off.
I come from sunshine year-round,
and from snow in late April.
I come from learning to love the skin I am in,
learning to love myself,
and to put positivity in every situation.
I come from support from family,
I come from denial from family,
I come from the darkest moments,
and searching, scratching, being thirsty for light,
and finding it in those who were there all along.
And from those who just met you, and get it.
I come from Sunday school,
before the sun came up to meet you,
packed in the car that wasn't big enough for your eight person family.
I come from denial.
I come from Momo, with a heart big enough to swallow this world.
Giving her very last penny, to see you happy for a moment.
She knows the moments will pass, but she wants strife to be past.
That's why she'll give her last.
I come from hope.
I come from an absent mind,
things here and there,
lost in a moment.....
....
...
Where was I?
Oh yeah, I come from..
love, understanding..
An aunt and sister who are gracious geniuses,
with so much to offer this world.
I come from knowing what the Star and Crescent meant,
and living it way before I actually read it.
I come from dipping my hands in bad things,
not because of peer pressure,
but because I come from a curious soul.
I come from "going my own way".
I come from "Everything in its right Place"
and "Now, I'm loooooooost"
I come from Halo nights with two different 'crews',
but the best friends.
I am from Simonson and Flaherty,
and their gracious, beautiful families.
I am from that invitation to a night at Garrett's,
which meant much more to me than anyone will ever know.
That Chicago trip with Oresman-Henricks, or maybe that Christmas with the Ramirez',
thank you.
I am from friends that are family.
I come from Wheel of Fortune,
teaching me how to spell.
I come from big city lights,
and roads that would put the Labyrinth to shame.
I also come from late nights cutting what little weight I had,
in hopes of winning that regional title the next morning.
I am from laid back beats, but also raised
on the electric guitar.
I come from 'The Glory'.
I come from finding beauty in all things.
Intellectual, satisfying, gratifying,
beauty.
I come from constantly changing aspirations, goals.
I come from astronauts, scientists, doctors, soldiers
those were things people told me to be.
I once wanted to be those things, but haha,
since when did I listen to what people told me to be.
Still moving, not settling,
never comfortable with static.
I come from liberation and oppression,
knowing the difference, understanding
what is hard to hear,
being apart of
what is hard to hear.
I also come from emotional, physical, hurt
but rising above.
I come from saying too much,
too little,
but never nothing at all.
I come from hope.
I come from an absent mind,
things here and there,
lost in a moment.....
....
...
Where was I?
