Here is my latest Avon Walk training blog:
I didn't do my training blog last week because it was a bit of a bummer! :P
I've been having a small problem with a blistery spot on the inside of my right heel, but after several weeks of walk, blister, heal, walk, blister, heal I had developed a nice callus to protect that spot. I also found the magic combination of socks and anti-chafing gunk for my feet, so I had a couple of training weeks with no problems whatsoever, yippee!
Then my foot decided--without consulting me!--that I didn't need that nice callus anymore and it sloughed off. So when I walked 20 miles last Monday it was on nice pretty new unprotected skin. Yowsers!
I did make it the 20 miles, although I did take up jogging again for a bit of it. And I also got caught by bicyclist singing outloud along with my mp3 player! The kicker is that I was not embarrassed that he caught me singing--I was embarrassed he caught me singing a song I don't sing very well! Ha ha!
Anyway, by the time I got home and looked at my foot I knew it was worse this time than it has been before. I couldn't do my 10-mile walk on Tuesday and by Thursday I went to see a podiatrist. I'd developed a very deep blister that was infected, yuck! So she took care of the yuckiness and put me on antibiotics, and I've laid off the long training walks in order to give my foot a chance to heal 100% before the big walk (in only 10 days, holy crap!). I also got some cool gel heel inserts for my shoes that should prevent any problems on Walk Weekend (why didn't I know about those before?).
I was pretty bummed about it last week because I have really enjoyed checking off those training walk boxes and then telling you all about my accomplishments! But Jason has (just about) convinced me that I am in good enough shape to do the whole walk even without these last couple training walks. Plus, I've been training on a bike path beside an expressway by myself which has been booooooooh-ring (hence the singing outloud!). So when I'm walking in beautiful D.C. with lots of other women to chat with, I'm sure the time and miles will fly by! :)
Wish me luck! And if you've been meaning to donate, now is the time! :)
