I highly recommend this movie. There are some things that go on in the world that you almost don’t want to know about. But awareness is important. It is the only true catalyst for change. The reality of some of life’s dark secrets can be downright crippling. So Is it better to sit by and pretend everything is wonderful and cozy in the world or is it important for each of us to embrace that this is our planet and that we share some responsibility in all that goes on here? I guess that is for each of us to decided individually. Watching this movie though, I am reminded, there will be no to true change until all of us decide to stand up and make our voices heard.

IMO: This movie is pretty suspenseful, but viewers know walking into this movie that they are going to show some dolphins being killed, somewhat needlessly. If you're vegan, you don't need to see this. This movie pursues a speciesist approach towards animal suffering, granting value of life to only animals that we perceive as intelligible. The movie has good intentions, but ends up alienating and objectifying Japanese culture from the perspective of an unreflective American.

If you want to see some dolphins get hacked, go for it, but I would rather you take my word for it and have you spend your $9 towards a more universal form of activism.

I agree with you completely !

I am sick of watching the arrogance us Americans thinking we are the voice of the other people from other countries.
I think such criticism is a double standard.
How can you criticize Japanese folks killing dolphins and eating them for over hundred years of tradition in their own territorial waters, when we allow hunting animals for recreation. If we have the right to stop Japan from killing dolphins then India has the right to stop Americans from killing and eating cows, right?

People complaining about animal abuse and culling practices should do it in China. See how far they will get. They always like to pick on other countries but never look at their own.

I'm just saying. Stop putting all these animals into these little made up groups, only trying to save the cute & cuddly ones, then go chomp down on a steak or plate of bacon. They all feel pain & a lot of them have emotions too. That pig you're eating was probably scared shitless the last few minutes of its life.

BTW, I'm not a vegetarian. I just hate the hypocrisy of this subject.

As for people thinking dolphins are magical critters that do nothing wrong and are so wholesome... I hate to tell you this. Dolphins can be dicks! Here is some footage of dolphins killing porpoises just for fun. Seems to me they were being 'speciest'

I love Circa Survive, but that doesn't mean we have to agree on social views and politics.
With that said, I can't wait for the new album, the studio updates keep adding to the suspense :)

I agree with both you and biggie on this subject, and am myself a veggiehead moving towards being vegan.  I wanted to maybe point out just a few things: first i saw that below these posts someone posted a banner for "The Venus Project".... now that is something everyone needs to see. I was directed to watch this video by a friend Chris (closure in moscow) who i trust to have a lot of insight on such issues. I definatly pass that reccomendation on to all of you. Second, i wanted to mention an even more pressing issue all accross the world invoving a trade codex that was passed in 1963 regulating nutrients and mandating that all food not being eatten at the source is to be irradiated. If this is to go unchecked billions will die of starvation and dissese due to malnourishment. GO INFORM YOURSELF ABOUT THIS CODEX IT IS TO GO INTO EFFECT DEC 31 2009!!! GO GOOGLE "codex alimentarius"....

Also, it has been seen that bottlenose dolphins brutally rape their own young (not just harbour porpoises) to death and then play with their carcasses regularly and in separate, independent instances. The male population has been observed holding females against their will for weeks until they are sexually receptive (rape).

Basically, don't treat them as humans.

The colossal ideas of conscience proposed on the aforementioned dolphins, noted to make them appear imperfect (which they are), is ironic in the fact that the supposed anti-lobby, saying that we shouldn't impose our ideas and cultures upon another collective culture, yet we could turn around and impose it on another species? Ludicrously delicious. Like telling a soldier not to shoot, then aiming his gun and pulling the trigger. Oi. That's all I have to say.
